Just follow the money

I wrote recently about Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring’s unilateral move to ban reciprocity. Virginia, according to Herring’s diktat, will no longer recognize concealed carry permits from 25 other states.

The reaction from pro-rights advocates has been vicious, and in retaliation, the Virginia GOP has moved to defund Terry McAwful’s executive protection unit. Virginia state senator Bill Carrico proposed a budget amendment that could strip the anti-gun McAwful, who apparently has no problem working to disarm the very people who are the source of his power, and who has no problem using those same taxpayers’ money to protect his own worthless hide, of his protective detail. “If he’s so afraid of guns,”Carrico said, “then I’m not going to surround him with armed state policemen.”

However, it is instructive to see to whom McAwful and Herring are truly beholden, and John Richardson at No Lawyers – Only Guns and Money did just that.

Would it surprise anyone to know that both McAwful and Herring are beholden in no small part to former New York mayor and statist imbecile Michael Bloomberg? I didn’t think so.

Lo and behold the top donor to his campaign for Attorney General was none other than Independence USA PAC. They gave $1,292,417 of in-kind donations to his campaign. The money went for media production and advertising buys. To put this into perspective, the next two highest donors gave approximately half this amount each. The only candidate to get more money from that PAC was Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D-VA).

Bloomberg-2-777x437And would it surprise anyone to know that Independence USA PAC is Bloomberg’s personal vendetta against our Second Amendment rights, and is dedicated to helping to elect candidates who support stricter gun-control laws? It was founded in October 2012 by Michael Bloomberg, and, so far, has been entirely funded by the former New York City mayor, according to FactCheck.org.

When your politicians are paid for by nosy, authoritarian, meddling nanny statists this is what you can expect. Bloomberg bought himself Virginia’s governor and attorney general. Now all he needs to do is say the word, and they will bend over.

Meanwhile, criminals will continue to carry Glocks in their sagging pants, while law-abiding citizens from out of state will simply switch to open carry, as is legal all over the Commonwealth.

  1. The hard-left Marxist and Islamists who infect our federal government plus the MSM media prostitutes who protect them will gleefully lie, falsify, fabricate, slander, libel, deceive, delude, bribe, and treasonably betray the free citizens of the United States..

Second Amendment foes lying about gun control – The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. The Second Amendment has nothing to do with personal self-defense.Firearms are our constitutionally mandated safeguard against tyranny by a powerful federal government. Only dictators, tyrants, despots, totalitarians, and those who want to control and ultimately to enslave you support gun control.

No matter what any president, senator, congressman, or hard-left mainstream media prostitutes tell you concerning the statist utopian fantasy of safety and security through further gun control: They are lying. If their lips are moving, they are lying about gun control. These despots truly hate America..

These tyrants hate freedom, liberty, personal responsibility, and private property. But the reality is that our citizens’ ownership of firearms serves as a concrete deterrent against despotism. They are demanding to hold the absolute power of life and death over you and your family. Ask the six million Jewws, and the other five million murdered martyrs who perished in the Nazzi death camps, how being disarmed by a powerful tyranny ended any chances of fighting back. Ask the murdered martyrs of the Warsaw Ghetto about gun control.

Their single agenda is to control you after you are disarmed. When the people who want to control you hold the absolute power of life and death over your family, you have been enslaved. The hard-left Marxist and Islamists who infect our federal government plus the MSM media prostitutes who protect them will gleefully lie, falsify, fabricate, slander, libel, deceive, delude, bribe, and treasonably betray the free citizens of the United States into becoming an unarmed population. Unarmed populations have been treated as slaves and chattel since the dawn of history.

Will we stand our ground, maintaining our constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment rights, fighting those who would enslave us?

    1. Oh, chill your reactionary ass out. It’s a way to reduce spam comments. I’ve approved your comment. If you don’t like the first time moderation, leave.

    2. “Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication or other information which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by governments, media outlets, authorities or other groups or institutions.”

Moderation is merely managing discussion, in this case to control spam — people using our resources to sell their scams and products.

A spammer might have a claim to censorship, since we permanently block them. You don’t; you were screened and passed. Or are you claiming to be a spammer?

      1. And the owners of this, and any other, blog have the absolute right to accept or reject any comments they wish, including mine, with no apologies or explanations being necessary. If that is unacceptable, write your own blog.

    3. Setting rules for speech in what is, effectively, the private property of The Zelman Partisans is in no way censorship. You are free to go and express yourself on your own blog. Censorship is when you are not free to express yourself in public or on your property, as Carl stated.

Stop whining. You are a virtual guest in somebody else’s house; behave like it. I further suggest that if you do not understand the difference between these two, and the importance of property rights, that you need to study up on Enlightenment philosophy. Regardless of your position on firearms, if you do not understand property rights, you are no friend of Liberty.

  2. I did want to ask this: can the VA AG (“Vaag”?) legally make that change to VA law (I’m guessing reciprocity was written into VA law at some point?) by simple decree? Is the fear that a liberal judge would rule in his favor simply because of agreeing with his agenda what has people in Virginia (or visitors who carry concealed) concerned?

    1. There are some questions about that right now. I’m not a lawyer by any stretch, so it’s hard for me to tell. There’s a movement to remove Herring too, which I doubt will be successful.

      More on that here.

    2. I could be wrong but I don’t think he has severed reciprocity with all states, has he? Don’t get me wrong I detest all politicians and bureaucrats who try to restrict liberties and the natural rights of the public.
I suspect that the law only gives guidelines (if any at all) to the question of reciprocity that is vague enough to allow a wide level of interpretation. I imagine he is using VA law concerning conceal carry as a baseline and only allowing states to have reciprocity with VA who are, in his twisted logic, more restrictive than VA or some other arbitrary reason.
I could be wrong in this as it is my assumption.

      1. § 18.2-308.014. Reciprocity.

        A. A valid concealed handgun or concealed weapon permit or license issued by another state shall authorize the holder of such permit or license who is at least 21 years of age to carry a concealed handgun in the Commonwealth, provided (i) the issuing authority provides the means for instantaneous verification of the validity of all such permits or licenses issued within that state, accessible 24 hours a day, and (ii) except for the age of the permit or license holder and the type of weapon authorized to be carried, the requirements and qualifications of that state’s law are adequate to prevent possession of a permit or license by persons who would be denied a permit in the Commonwealth under this article.

The bold section is the tricky part. § 18.2-308.09. Disqualifications for a concealed handgun permit. has a long list of disqualifiers far more extensive than the federal “prohibited person” or the vast majority of states, including previous nonviolent misdemeanors, DUI, Public intoxication, or even if the sheriff or police chief just thinks you might do something (seriously: number 13). Voluntarily seeking any mental health treatment is a disqualifier, too.

Already, VA didn’t recognize licenses from several states (such as Georgia and New Hampshire); with the additional 25 struck down, I think there’s maybe five.

  3. Virginia Citizens Defense League, Inc. press release;

    http://concealednation.org/2015/12/advice-for-out-of-state-virginia-chp-holders/

I was raised in Virginia. I don’t live there now but still have family there and do visit.

You see in my veins flows the blood of people who were willing to fight for what they believed in. There are many like me, all over this country.

The biggest mistake tyrants can make is to aroused those of us who understand what standing up for your rights can & will lead to.

    When tyranny becomes law
    Rebellion becomes duty!

  4. Thanks for the clarification Carl. I guess that’s what happens with assumptions.

Reading the beginning of § 18.2-308.014. Reciprocity, it seems that anyone with a conceal carry permit from another state that meets § 18.2-308.014 (i) & (ii) and does not fall within § 18.2-308.09. Disqualifications for a concealed handgun permit should be able to carry in VA regardless of reciprocity agreements between VA and other states. Apparently that’s not the case. § 18.2-308.014 C. speaks of The Superintendent of the State Police, in consultation with the Attorney General, may also enter into agreements for reciprocal recognition with any state qualifying for recognition under this subsection.

I don’t know but I wish the people of VA the best in correcting this mess their AG is making.
