here’s what the nra just endorsed for president

The NRA just endorsed Donald Trump for president at its national convention.

This is what they endorsed.

I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record. — Source: The America We Deserve, by Donald Trump, p.102 , Jul 2, 2000

It’s often argued that the American murder rate is high because guns are more available here than in other countries. Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only the law-abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed. The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions. — Source: The America We Deserve, by Donald Trump, p.102 , Jul 2, 2000

Q: Do you support the California law allowing judges to confiscate someone’s gun if they are deemed to be a threat to themselves or others?

A: This is something to look into–people with mental health problems are on the streets who shouldn’t be. — Source: CNN SOTU 2015 interview series: 2016 presidential hopefuls , Sep 20, 2015

Q: You’ve talked about wanting to keep the terror watch list but, under current law, individuals on the terror watch list and the no-fly list have been allowed to buy guns and explosives. Are you OK with that?

TRUMP: We have to have a watch list, but we have the laws already on the books as far as Second Amendment for guns, if people are on a watch list or people are sick, this is already covered in the legislation that we already have,

Q: But under current law people on the watch list are allowed to buy guns.

TRUMP: If somebody is on a watch list and an enemy of state and we know it’s an enemy of state, I would keep them away, absolutely. –ABC This Week 2015 interviews of 2016 presidential hopefuls , Nov 22, 2015

Donald_Trump_GunSo the NRA – an organization that is supposedly dedicated to preserving our Second Amendment rights – America’s First Freedom – endorsed a candidate who implied that the NRA is uncompromising and that Republicans are wrong not to bend on at least some restrictions.

The NRA endorsed a candidate who thinks it may be acceptable for a judge to confiscate the property of an individual with some nebulous concept of “mental health problems.”

The NRA endorsed a candidate who believes people placed on a secret no-fly list without due process should be relieved of their right to keep and bear arms.

The NRA endorsed a candidate who has publicly voiced his support for an “assault weapons” ban and who wants a waiting period before anyone is allowed to make a constitutionally protected purchase. Of course, now he claims he no longer supports the ban on those scary black rifles. Just in time to run for President as a Republican.

Congrats, NRA. You’ve endorsed a flip-flopping, tyrannical weasel, who has hoodwinked a plurality of Republicans into supporting him, and you fell right in line with the rest of those who care more about “winning” than they do about the direction this country is taking.

You care more about defeating the evil Hillary than you do about endorsing someone who has zero respect for basic human rights and believes they should be subject to the whims of politicians.

America’s first freedom, indeed.

Nauseating.

  1. sorry – i think you are wrong on this…. Hillary will do far more damage to 2A rights by packing the court with liberal gun grabbing judges.. Trump on the other hand will not… and he seems far more 2A friendly than Hillary will ever be. I agree with the NRA endorsement.

    1. You are welcome to think I’m wrong all you want. This is a man who openly advocated for gun control and now that he’s pretending to be a Republican, he’s kissing the NRA’s ass?

This is a man who just this past year publicly praised his extreme leftist sister as a great potential Supreme Court justice!

      No thanks.

      1. Bush 41′ Banned many semi-auto imports, and resigned from the NRA. Voted in favor of GCA 68′ as a congressman. Bush 43 did nothing at all for us. NOBODY was skeptical of either one of them. Regan signed the Hughes amendment, and supported the Brady’s’

Regan: ““I want to tell all of you here today something that I’m not sure you know. You do know that I’m a member of the NRA. My position on right to bear arms is well known. But I want you to know something else. And I’m going to say it in clear unmistakable language. I support the Brady bill and I urge the Congress to enact it.”

This is the guy EVERY conservative worships as a demi-god.

How about Bush 43′ back in 2004?:

““I did think we ought to extend the assault weapons ban, and was told the fact that the bill was never going to move, because Republicans and Democrats were against the assault weapon ban, people of both parties. I believe law-abiding citizens ought to be able to own a gun. I believe in background checks at gun shows or anywhere to make sure that guns don’t get in the hands of people that shouldn’t have them.”

How about Bush 41′ right after the OKC bombing?:
” “There’s no reason why on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons.”

        Read my lips indeed.

Nixon?: ““I don’t know why any individual should have a right to have a revolver in his house.”

Ok, how about Romney, the last wonderful status quo Republican running?

“We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts — I support them. I won’t chip away at them. I believe they help protect us, and provide for our safety.”

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,”

But when running for POTUS, became an NRA life member, saying:

“I support the Second Amendment as one of the most basic and fundamental rights of every American.”

        And:

“When it comes to protecting the Second Amendment, I do not support any new gun laws including any new ban on semi-automatic firearms.”

        John McCain:

““Convicted felons have been able to buy and sell thousands of guns at gun shows because of a loophole in the law,”

After Columbine, he stuck a wetted finger in the air:

“I do believe my view has evolved,” he said. “It’s appropriate to do so in light of some of the terrible tragedies that have befallen our nation.”

We have never had, and probably never will have the perfect choice to make.

Yep, my eyes are wide open on what Trump has said in the past. They were opened by those that came before him

I know what his predecessors have thought and DONE in the past. I’m pretty sure a person’s mind can be changed, but not their past actions. Has Trump changed his mind? Or is this just political opportunism? If it’s the latter, he’s smart, because the trend politically has been away from gun control. That leaves the question of what he has done, which is nothing, and what he will do, which while not a sure thing seems promising, at least insofar as SCOTUS is concerned. And without a majority of the black robes, we lose. Of that, I am possessed of absolute metaphysical certitude.

So we can nail our flag to the mast of pro gun, and or conservative political ideology, smash the lifeboats and stay aboard the S.S. #NeverTrump, OR…..

Keep our prospects in play, move the courts right, and keep millions of brand spanking new immigrant democrats, government dependent ones at that, from being created.

The choice is Trump, and the morality of that choice is entirely defensible. His past anti-gun rhetoric and the changes of position thereof pale in comparison to those of his antecedents. There room for concern, but since when has there not been?

          1. Unless you want a SCOTUS stacked with anti gun liberals and enough new immigrant democrat voters to pass every anti-gun law up for a vote yes.

            Heller? Gone.

            McDonald? Gone.

And every anti gun law passes to ever Federal appeals court upheld?

Unless of course, your goal is to help foment Civil War II, in which case I might be convinced.

          2. Oh, you mean like a SCOTUS stacked with notorious leftist judges like Trump’s sister, who he has said would make a great Supreme Court nominee? THAT kind of judges?

  2. But the supreme court. But the supreme court.
Trump wouldn’t know the first thing about H-s natural law if G-d himself threw Trump in jail for violating it.
But the supreme court, Trump will put “conservatives” on the supreme court. Balderdash.

  3. The simple fact is, Trump is a loose cannon. You cannot know what he will do.

Only rarely, and by coincidence, will it be what you want him to do.

You may want to calculate that occasionally right is better than never right. OK, fair enough. That’d be an interesting and useful conversation. But please don’t try to claim this guy is principled. That’s just asinine, to the point where I think those who say so are either fooled or downright delusional.

  4. I am an NRA member.

Jusst who is the NRA going to endorse? Hillary Clinton? Sure, we do not know what Trump might do w.r.t. the 2nd Amendment as President, but are we really in any doubt about what what a President Clinton would do. She has announced what she would do explicitly. You guy are allowing the perfect to be the enemy of the good: Trump is not perfect, but he is what we have to work with. Zelman Partisans, you’re wrong on this!

    1. I would also submit to you that we can’t allow the enemy be portrayed as a friend. Fact is Trump is the enemy of Liberty. I don’t care what letter he has behind his name. YMMV

      1. So then, I’m willing to hear you out on your proposals for an alternative course of action, and your rationales for same.

        Paul Ryan?

        Mitt Romney?

Or Gary Johnson and his notoriously anti gun VP pick William Weld?

Take your pick or do nothing at all. Sorry, Pat Paulson is dead.

It’s all very reminiscent of Ahab, and bound to end up the same way

“To the last, I grapple with thee; From Hell’s heart, I stab at thee; For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee.”

        1. We HAD Rand Paul, but he wasn’t ‘flashy’ enough I guess. Strong Constitutionalist and actually conservative in his politics. All the faux-conservatives threw their support behind Trump to rationalize team R must beat team D! Whoever gets it, we will ultimately end up with a tyrant.

We need a metric ton of Constitutionalist with spines of steel in Congress. Maybe with a larger group they will start to actually ‘check & balace’ the other 2 branches.

        2. If you don’t like Gary Johnson, I would submit we need to play the long game here. Let’s think this through.

The Republicans are notorious for falling in line behind whoever their guy is, no matter how odious. They’re already falling in line behind Trump – a guy whom they excoriated until just a few weeks ago, and the convention hasn’t even happened yet!

So chances are, whatever odious piece of crap Trump wants to ram down our collective throats will get more support from the Republicans, and given his authoritarian tendencies, that will be dangerous for ALL our freedoms, not just our RKBA. That’s a no-go.

          So, my proposal is twofold:

          1) Work to elect the most freedom-oriented, constitutionalist congressmen and senators we possibly help. Focus on Congress to ensure that we have a large, freedom coalition majority.

          2) Ensure Hillary wins. Yes, you heard me right. The Republican majority will stand up to the evil they do know. They hate her. They will make sure none of her authoritarian agenda passes. They are certainly more likely to stand up to her – or any Democrat, for that matter – than they are to one of “their own.”

Because if we do support Trump, and he gets elected with Republican majorities on the Hill, we are guaranteed screwed.

The NRA doesn’t have to endorse anyone if it doesn’t want to. And if it didn’t, that would sure send the message that the NRA cares about our rights and freedoms, rather than only caring about electing someone with an “R” behind his name.

          1. The Republican Majority will NOT stand up to Harridan. If they were ever going to it would have happened by now. NO ONE is going to stand up to Harridan Rotten Clinton.
I do agree that representative and Senatorial races are possibly , even, MORE important,,, I wish I lived somewhere other than Massive ChewShits where a decent candidate only comes up every millenema or so..
I don’ t really care who the NRA supports now, I’m convinced they only exist to insure their existence ,
Libertarians??? don’t make me vomit… They had their chance in the first Obozo election,,, Bob Barr was a great candidate. and if you lived in New England and New York the only thing you ever saw on the State Libertarian websites were entreaties to go to Boston to participate in a rally to decriminalize marijuana. That is the “mindset” of that party. These idiots didn’t even realize there was an important national election happening. It was all about the weed. And they had a candidate!!!! Now it’s probably all about the Douche flute. (vaping) .

          2. They hate Hillary enough to stand against her authoritarian agenda? Like they did against Obama’s authoritarian agenda?

And if Trump will appoint leftist judges, then we’re damned if we do, damned if we don’t. This tells me that we have one party, the Janus party. But while this party has two faces, it is socialist throughout its corrupt and evil heart.

        3. BTW – Weld isn’t Gary’s “pick.” IIRC, the LP votes separately for the presidential and vice presidential nominee. Gary doesn’t get to choose his running mate.

  5. It’s a tough call. We don’t know if he will defend any of the conservative positions he has adopted once in office. We do know that the Hilwitch will come at us like the SS. At the same time, he has taken incredibly aggressive conservative opinions on immigration, tariffs and taxes. The other so called conservatives have been major disappointments on all of the above. he may just be the right man to rid ourselves of the Obama legacy. I’m working, praying and hoping that is the case.

  6. I’m interested to see who you see as an alternative, Nicki. Personally, I don’t want anyone for “president,” or any other political position. That’s my solution, but there’s little chance that is shared by enough people to matter.

Why would anyone want to be ruled, controlled by these people at all, not just on “gun” issues? Since we all seem to understand that NO politician is interested in our individual liberty, why do we continue to argue over the “lesser evil?” What do you see as the solution?

  7. Ok. Here’s my ‘penny bet ‘ on the table. If Trump is elected, two things will happen; 1) He WILL sign significant legislation expanding the ability of government to constrain the exercise of the 2nd Amendment, and 2) The NRA will help him do it. I’ll check back with you “gotta hold my nose…” folks in 4 1/2 years. Goin’ on EIGHTY YEARS, now: http://www.ncc-1776.org/tle1997/le970601-03.html

  8. The NRA leadership/employees is “dedicated to preserving” a threat to human/civil rights that it can then use to justify eternal fundraising. That’s why they helped kill Constitutional Carry in NH and helped write an “assault weapon” ban in OH. And why they endorsed a candidate with an anti-RKBA history (who actually claimed he’d like Oprah Winfrey as his VP).

For hose asking who the NRA should have endorsed: Is there something in the NRA bylaws that requires them to endorse any candidate, even when there’s no one good on RKBA?

If I decide to cast a ballot in the November Non-Binding Popularity Poll at all (unlikely), it’ll be a toss-up between Vermin Supreme and a write-in for Cthulhu.Unless the LP nominates McAfee.

  9. The same thing that is wrong with the NRA is also what is wrong with the republican party; those that control both organizations are only interested in one thing, their own self preservation and if that means that principles be damn to do it then so be it. This mess we are in ain’t just a democratic mess IMHO.

Trump is a new York liberal always has been and always will be, no matter what he says in trying to get the sheep to support him.

BTW every and I mean every New York liberal I’ve ever heard of has always been for gun control just ask Trump’s good buddy Bloomberg for example who calls himself republican when it suits him too.

People will say you got to support someone, or by not voting for Trump you are voting for Hillary but my question to everyone; is not the lesser of two evils; evil, and if you support evil what does that make you?

I would rather not vote than support evil, is voting important enough to give up your principles?
