Swalwell Then and Now

When last we saw Rep. Eric Swalwell [Dimwit-CA], he was ending his humiliatingly failed Presidential run. He always fared poorly in the polls, appealing only to those stupid enough to think that they could get him over the individual-donor threshold to get on the debate stage by making repeated $1 donations.

Apparently he enjoys ridicule and humiliation. On May 4, he marked the anniversary of the Kent State shooting of anti-war protestors by National Guardsmen. He tweeted:

50 years ago our nation was rocked when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on student protestors at #KentState, killing 4 and injuring 9 others. We must never forget that freedom of speech and the right to assemble are the lifeblood of our democracy.

Yes, that would be the same Swalwell who threatened to do the same thing to millions of Americans in November 2018.

And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities.

Four killed by government troops is a tragedy. Millions is just good policy. Hypocrisy much, Duke Nukem?

The Lies That Never Die

CNN held a town hall Wednesday, and I gather the violence-enabling victim disarmament lies were flying. I didn’t watch it but per reports, the usual long debunked arguments were still trotted out.

Gropin’ Joe Biden came up with the bogus First Amendment comparison.

“[N]o amendment is absolute. None of you can stand up on the First Amendment, free speech, and yell ‘fire’ in here [or] you’ll be arrested.”

I found that particularly annoying since I just wasted virtual ink schooling a lying professor on that very subject.

“You pretend that lying and threatening are the First Amendment equivalents of the Second Amendment right to POSSESS a tool.”

Hey, Biden; did you get a First Amendment license before you spoke at that town hall? Did you undergo a prior restraint on your right to speech by preemptively proving your innocence before stepping up to that microphone? Did you show the moderator your government issued photo ID and fill out a form for the government’s use, remembering to tell them your very race?

Not to be mendaciously outdone, Mini Mike Bloomberg pulled this out of… somewhere.

“You don’t want to have guns. If you have a gun in your house you’re something like 22 times as likely to get killed with a gun.”

He didn’t cite a source for that, but “22” tells us he’s thinking of the insanely bad Kellerman 1998 paper.

Kellerman came up with that ratio by ignoring all non-lethal defensive gun uses (DGU), and lumping in all lethal non-defensive deaths — firearm or not — together (there were issues with the counties he chose to represent the US, as well). That should have rated nonacceptance right there, and certainly retraction once it was pointed out.

But really, this should have been another clue:

“Homicide claims the lives of approximately 24,000 Americans each year, making it the 11th leading cause of death among all age groups, the 2nd leading cause of death among all people 15 to 24 years old, and the leading cause of death among male African Americans 15 to 34 years old.”

1980 was the peak year for homicides in the US, with a rate of 10.2/100K, or about 23,107 homicides. We’ve never hit 24,000, much average it. The 2018 rate was 5.9/100K. (WISQARS only goes back to 1999, the year after the Kellerman paper, but there were 16,889 homicides that year. The rate given for 1998 is 6.3/100K; which would work out to 17336 homicides. Kellerman inflated his claim by over 38%.)

Sorry, Mike; busted.

For those curious as to the actual ratio of DGUs to homicides, that’s a tough call. Based on personal experience, I don’t think the majority of DGUs are ever reported. But the anti-gun rights group Violence Policy Center looked at reported numbers and estimated 338,700 DGUs in 2007-2011, an average of 67,740/year.

They found 58,450 firearm homicides in that same period, an average of 11,690.

So rather than being guns being 22 times more likely to be used in murder as Bloomberg claimed, they’re 5.8 times more likely to be used defensively. And that is using VPC’s laughably low estimate of DGUs. As in the three incidents in personal experience, most are never reported to police. Using VPC numbers, let’s put DGUs at 270,960 per year.

In another blatant lie, Biden also claimed there 150 million firearm deaths since 2007 (47.5% of the population!). That would average 11,538,462. Typically, no more than 40% would be homicides, so… 4,615,384 “homicides” by Creepy Uncle Joe’s weird estimate. I wonder. That would yield a DGU: homicide ratio of 1:17. Maybe that’s the red-sky universe where Bloomberg and Kellerman found their fantastically out-of-this world WAG. I do not think Joe Biden is a reliable primary source, guys.

Packing it in

In a few minutes, I am going to turn off my computer. I’ll take a shower and go buy a lottery ticket and some booze. I’ll try to turn the computer back on in time to send the Monday Alert newsletter.

I need a weekend without any more news.

We have calls for expanded background checks which will include scouring the Internet for signs of wrongthink, to decide who can be trusted to have a firearm. No doubt the decision will be made by types who believe that the desire to own a firearm is automatic indicator of disqualifying insanity.

Kamala Harris has vowed to officially reinstate COINTELPRO; legislatively if she can, by executive order if she can’t. The data will be used to implement “white nationalist” protective orders. “White” is anyone Corey Booker’s shade or lighter who doesn’t claim to be black. “Nationalist” is anyone who thinks just maybe it would be a good idea to screen Congolese “refugees” for Ebola (the latest version of which can incubate for as much as 40 days before showing any symptoms like a fever).

Our “pro-gun” president has endorsed every victim disarmament proposal pushed by his Dem rivals, and implemented some. Word is pistol-braced handguns are about to become NFA short-barrel rifles.

Warren has also seized on Trump’s precedent, declaring that she’ll redefine words to expand the meaning of “intimate partner” to include anyone who flirted. The Housed-passed VAWA, would make it a crime to check the Twitter feed of anyone with whom you flirted (I kid you not; read it).

The Republican party has followed Trump’s anti-rights lead on guns, competing to see who can screw you faster and worse. I called my Senators to voice my opposition to more gun control. One Senator’s number goes straight to voicemail. Senator Crickets’ staffer simply hung up on me. (I was reading from a brief script, so it was polite.)

My Representative? The last I heard, he still had that staffer running the apparent identity theft scam.

And that’s some of the less-foul news of the past week. On top of all that I’m getting anti-semitic slurs and rants, and death threats; mostly oblique, but one was direct enough to report.

And they wonder why I would want a gun.

Have a nice weekend.

“Stroke of the Pen” Is Getting Pretty Popular

The Zelman Partisans have been warning you for years. We warned that allowing the precedent of letting presidents and bureaucrats redefine the words in statutory law was dangerous. That was nearly four years ago.

A year ago, we reiterated the warning for people who couldn’t grasp why redefining words like “machinegun” and “trigger” is a bad thing.

A few months back, we said it again: “And that was a signal to every other bureaucrat in every other federal agency and department: Do whatever you want.”

Too many folks declined to listen or consider the ramifications. But the victim disarmers certainly took notice.

Elizabeth Warren’s Gun Violence Prevention Plan Will Close The Boyfriend Loophole
Specifically regarding the “boyfriend loophole,” and the connection between domestic violence and gun violence, Warren indicated that she plans to attack the problem at both the executive and legislative level. As an executive action, Warren would redefine “intimate partner” to include anyone with a domestic violence conviction involving any form of romantic partner. Then she would turn the issue over to Congress and also expand the law to include individuals with restraining orders or who have been convicted of stalking.

“As an executive action, Warren would redefine “intimate partner”

After all, it worked forTrump. Marx would be so proud.

If you’ll excuse me, I need to go do some maintenance on my M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank.

NZ Confiscation: The Hilarity Continues

To read the headlines would be to weep for the death of sense and freedom in New Zealand. To do the math is to laugh for joy.

New Zealand’s first week of firearms buy-back successful: police
The first full week of New Zealand’s firearms buyback and amnesty, which aims to remove the most dangerous weapons from circulation, has produced a strong turnout as events roll out nationwide for the first time.

“Momentum is slowly starting to build as community collection events are held across the entire country,” Police Minister Stuart Nash said in a statement after 25 public firearm collection events were held over the past week, including seven held on Sunday.

How successful? Of a rough estimated 1.5 million subject firearms (I’ve seen WAGs ranging from 1-2 million), they got 3,275 guns.

0.22% compliance. Oh, yeah; New Zealanders are just rushing to surrender their arms.

Lessee, that’s 25 turn-in events. I had previously noted that — based on the low-ball one million guns guess — that they needed to get 3,861 guns per event. I guesstimated that they got 338 at the first event, just 8.75% of the per event number they needed.

Their per-event average is now down to 131, or 3.4%. The “best” turn-in, in Auckland, got 405 guns; 10.5%.

I had seen reports that “reimbursement” could go as high as 95% of new value. This report says 70%. I’m sure that’s helping folks decide to blow them off. I wonder how much of that is malicious compliance, with owners turning in inoperable beaters.

Assuming the turn-in rate doesn’t continue to drop, it’s only going to take them 38 years to get all those guns.

Quislings

[Some readers may think that this column is just about immigration, and is inappropriate for a site dedicated to Second Amendment issues. Please consider the potential effects of importing large numbers of people with little to no knowledge — much less respect for — constitutionally protected rights. – Editor]

Guest column by Historian

Quisling. A curious and somewhat whimsical sounding word. What does it mean? I’ve asked, and surprisingly few of my acquaintances knew the origin or meaning of the word; most of the responses were more or less humorous.. One acquaintance of mine said that it was a short quiz. Another made a humorous reference to the result of an amorous encounter between Mama Quis and Papa Quis. The word seems to have largely dropped out of our discourse, and is not often heard to-day. Some might argue that this is right, that old words, regardless of how cute they are that are no longer applicable to the world we live in today, should be retired. But the origin and meaning of the word “quisling” is neither cute nor innocent, nor is it at all funny. And it is as relevant today as it was when it was coined.

On April 9th, 1940, just over 79 years ago, military units of Nazi Germany invaded neutral Norway, supported by the fascist politician and head of the Norwegian Nazi Party, (Nasjonal Samling,) Vidkun Quisling, who then promptly staged a coup against the fleeing legitimate Norwegian government. Beginning at least as early as 1939, Quisling had urged Nazi Germany to invade neutral Norway, making trips to Germany to urge Hitler to invade Norway, and conspiring with German Intelligence agencies, providing information about Norwegian military plans and defences to the German military.

In 1942, Quisling became the Nazi-appointed Minister-President, under Reichskomissar Josef Terboven, and later that year, the Norwegian Endlosung commenced. While the numbers are a miniscule fraction of those murdered in Germany and Eastern Europe, about 1/3 of Norway’s Jews were sent to German extermination camps, mainly Auschwitz, under Quisling. Quisling supported the invasion of his country, overthrew his lawful government, and administered the displacement and murder of his countrymen, for political advantage.

It is worth noting that anti-semitism had, and still has, deep roots in Norway; Jews were forbidden to settle there until 1851, and only about 2100 Jews lived there before the Nazi invasion. Over 700 were murdered during the war; the rest fled the country, mostly to Sweden or England. Today there are two synagogues in Norway and about 700 Jews, both of which are subjected to attacks. In contrast, today there are about 160,000 Muslims there, over 3% of the population, let in by modern-day quislings.

So what is a ‘quisling’? A quisling is a traitor who collaborates with and supports a foreign invasion of his country; the term was coined shortly after the Nazi invasion by the Times of London, which referred to Norwegian collaborators as quislings. This term was commonly used during the Second World War, and is still occasionally used today- Paul Krugman recently referred to Donald Trump as a quisling for his supposed (and now shown to be non-existent) support of Russia.

Which begs the question- who are the REAL present day quislings among us here in these presently united States?

Who are those who have conspired to block the administration of US law, allowing millions of illegal aliens to criminally invade the US, and to remain here, committing further crimes?

Who are those who have funded and encouraged the above mentioned invasion of these presently united States?

Who are those who have treasonously refused to fund the defence of the borders of these presently united States?

Who are those who have, just as Vidkun Quisling did, uttered slanderous anti-Semitic diatribes against their supposed countrymen?

Who are those who have, just as Vidkun Quisling did, attempted a coup against their lawful government?

Who are those who have, for political advantage, subverted law and justice, aided and abetted murder, suborned non-enforcement of the laws, and supported invasion by large numbers of criminals and fanatics whose views and moral code is entirely opposed to the entire basis of Western Civilization?

What do you call such people?

Quislings, one and all. Traitorous anti-American collaborators with murderous fanatics, AND THEY MUST BE CALLED SUCH.

Nancy Pelosi? Quisling.
George Soros? Quisling.
Ocasio-Cortez? Quisling.
Omar-Ilhan? Quisling.
Comey/Rosenstein/Strozk? Quislings, one and all.
Anyone, of any political party, who is complicit in the ongoing attempt to subvert and overthrow the Republic by means of an invasion by illegal immigrants, is a Quisling.

Vidkun Quisling allied himself with those he thought would win the Second World War in the 1930s. He was rewarded by his Nazi masters, and ruled Norway during the German occupation. In 1945, Quisling was arrested, tried and convicted of murder and treason after the collapse of Nazi Germany, and shot in Oslo Norway in October 1945. Sic Semper Tyrannis.
Our modern day quislings would do well to remember his fate, although they certainly will not. So much the worse for them. “ Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it.”

Will you remember the word?

Will you apply it where appropriate?

Quisling.

#Poway

The last two days of Pesach are observed as the first two, in that they are holidays. This means I’m not on the computer, and I’m not listening to the radio. On Shabbat I don’t anyway. On Shabbat I’m where I’m suppose to be, in Beit Knesset, Shul, my place of meeting and prayer. I’m learning, I learn from my Rabbi and from the other people there that I have grown to care about very much. I have a huge sense of gratitude every single time I walk in, whether it is for Shabbat or a class I’m taking. I learn about

G-d, his love for me, for us, and his direction manual for us to grow in our relationship with him, how he wants us to live our lives, and how to live in peace with each other. And every time I go, I realize how much more I have to learn.

So it was late Saturday evening when I logged onto my computer and saw my first notification of the shooting at another Chabad in Poway Kalifornia. Before I could read the details my mind had already flipped back to the attack at the Chabad house in Mumbai India in November 2008. Mercifully, this was not that. The song that Y.B. had me post, Vehi She Amda is part of the Pesach seder, it’s a song I love, and most days I sing it because I love it that much. I love what it says.

This attacker was a 19 year old “Bucket O’Chum” who was in nursing school. And if that doesn’t scare you, it should. He self identifies as a 19 year old Kalifornia native and a nursing student. ‘I’m just a normal dude who wanted to have a family, help and heal people, and play piano.’ He also self identifies as a human being. I would disagree with that. Around 1130 on Shabbat during the service “Chum” walked in and began shooting any and all he could. There was a family there that have moved from Israel a few years before after the rockets fired from the “Two-state solution” known as Gaza had hit their home more than once. They had lived in Sderot. Another family member visiting from Sderot managed to save his nieces and a neighbor girl despite being wounded in the leg. Little Noya was wounded by shrapnel, and her hero uncle was hit in the leg. Both will survive. He also intended to kill Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, and although the Rabbi required surgery on both hands, and I believe lost a finger he is alive. He is alive because of his longtime friend and Chabad attendee Lori Gilbert-Kaye, 60. Lori flung herself between the killer and the Rabbi. A doctor began to perform CPR on her, when he realized it was his wife, he fainted. I can not even begin to imagine. As the Rabbi was wheeled into surgery he kept saying to let everyone know Lori saved his life.

Chum entered Chabad with a rifle, does what kind really matter? He was wearing a green vest and a helmet. He planned to stay awhile. Which might give rise to the question why is only one person dead. And in asking that, I do not mean to imply one is not significant. It is, it is one too many. From all I’ve read Lori was amazing, and it is a very significant loss not only to her family but the community as well. But you would have expected a higher death toll with the amount of preparations he seemed to have made. I have a couple of answers.

A) G-d, his gun jammed.

Authorities said the suspect’s gun may have jammed during the shooting

B) Human intervention

During the shooting, a brave off-duty border patrol agent, who was working as private security for the synagogue, fired at the shooter and chased him. Other members of the synagogue, who carried licensed concealed weapons, also went after him. Miraculously the killers’ gun jammed and he ran off. The heroes and G-d hand prevented the killer from claiming more lives.

The fact that there were armed congregants there and they went after him is not something I’ve seen brought out much.

Predictably the left began post haste to screech about gun laws. Anti-Gunners Call For Gun Control Laws Following Poway Synagogue Shooting But This Is What They’re Getting Wrong Beth Baumann has a break down on the laws already in place, or that may not have mattered at all.

And because to the left, one dead Jew isn’t enough, there is a list of the predictable responses of the usual victim disarmament crowd including Duke Nukem and Kamala Harris, who by the way, has her own gun and carry permit. Because you see that’s how elitism works. My life and family are valuable, yours aren’t. Like obamacare, we will legislate laws affecting your and your family’s life, but we will exempt ourselves from those laws. A small list is included in the “Anti-Gunner Call for Gun Control” link above. The killer ran off partly because armed members and the off duty Border Patrol agent came after him. The agent firing four shots at his car. So we can’t have armed citizens stopping a slaughter, correct progressives?

Which brings me to my next point. Progressives want to blame “right-wing” extremism and President Trump. As though Bucket O’Chum were a card carrying Republican. Nope. He hated Trump. With a vengeance because President Trump isn’t anti-Semitic. According to the manifesto he left on line, he most assuredly was not a President Trump fan. Of late, the majority of the hate is coming from Progressives, the left, and Islam. The reaction to attacks on Jews just needs to be adjusted to the situation. Rockets falling on Sdrot? Well, totally understandable, per Illan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Jewish Voice for Peace, B’Tselem, and the mainstream media, aka #FakeNews. Jews attacked in France, Sweden, Germany “it’s not muslims/islam” per the media, leftists and the politicians in those countries. Sarah Halimi is murdered by a muslim who screamed “Dirty Jewess” at her daughter, and it’s because he’s mentally incompetent. Not because he’s an islamic import to Francistan. In America people question a rise in antisemitism when obama brought in massive amounts of muslims, dumped them in places where they could be a majority and more easily enter political office. Yes, I’m talking about the ungrateful Somali “refugee” Omar. Or they can shoot unarmed yoga teachers and then have the mayor do a press conference wearing a hijab to show support for the Somali community. Not making that up. Obama-hack Jonathan Greenblatt, now head of the Anti-Defamation League has turned it in to a “dime store Southern Poverty Law Center”, and uses his position to blame the right. And who do Jews overwhelmingly vote for?

The left and its comrades in the mainstream media have taken the Jewish vote for granted for years. Jews are one of the most reliable constituencies of the Democratic Party. A CNN poll last fall found that nearly 80 percent of Jews voted Democratic in the midterm elections. Only 17 percent voted Republican. Yet anti-Semitism on the left in the U.S. has increased recently, including in the media.

And speaking of the media, and all the news that’s fit to lie about, The New York Slimes #FakeNews is becoming more brazen in their antisemitism having recently published a cartoon of President Trump, blind and wearing a kippah being led by a dog with a Magan David collar and Benjamin Netanyahu’s face. They finally removed it after a large outcry. Know what I find somewhat interesting? I’ve yet to see the name of the “cartoonist”. If it was a conservative that had done such a thing, their name, picture and family history back to the Mayflower would be all over the net by now. Say, where’s Omar Barghouti about now? Did the Slimes hire him?

So why did the Bucket O’Chum do this? Why the attack?

Like Tarrant in his own writings, the manifesto author states that his end goal is to prompt the U.S. government to begin confiscating guns, predicting that a civil war will ensue. The author said he had been planning the attack for four weeks.

Obviously a Duke Nukem supporter.

As long as we don’t look at this honestly, as long as people continue to embrace the big government control of citizens offered by people like #LipstickLenin-Cortez, this will continue. Because excuses are being made for the left, to more easily blame the right.

I admit, I’m having a very hard time with this. I’m trying to understand and make some sense of it. I know I need to work towards something a Rabbi I very much admire wrote,

The solution therefore is to a. Love!

b. a practical mechanism which has helped many is the implementing of the sage advice of the Jewish masters, such as:

1. When you wake up in the morning (as the first thought influences the rest of the day) Express Gratitude (and as research shows, gratitude culminates in hope and happiness)

2. Forgive nightly (yes, before you go to bed – the first part of our bedtime prayers is: we forgive everyone.)

and thinking about the bar scene in the Chuck Norris movie Code of Silence. There are naughty naughty words in here.

When those that hate and come to kill are met with that kind of a response (without the naughty words) from a hard target things will change. I believe and understand there is a purpose to everything in G-d’s world, but I want to see beautiful souls like Lori Gilbert-Kaye around for a long time, to mentor other women, and continue making the world more beautiful. I want to see people like Almog Peretz who saved the children have a beautiful visit and only happy memories of his Pesach in America. We are not cowards, look at Lori and Almog’s responses. What courage! Which is good, because it’s going to take courage, clarity, wisdom and honesty to admit what the left is offering is not our friend.

For now, all I know to do is pray for healing. And that more places of worship will begin to consider armed security among their attendees.

Now “weapons of war” are OK?

At long last, a victim-disarming politician has conceded that something is constitutionally protected by the Second Amendment.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg at Asian and Latino Coalition in Des Moines, Iowa
We’ve already decided this is within the Secondment [sic]. We have decided that somewhere in between a slingshot and a nuclear weapon, we can draw a line. That is not unconstitutional. That is common sense. That’s why I think assault rifles need to be on the table, too.

Slingshots.

But I hate to break it to the presidential hopeful…

Looks like a battlefield to me.

Those are weapons of war.

Buttigieg still hasn’t answered my question about assault rifles.

POLL: What to do with Bump Stocks

The deadline approaches: On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, those still holding bump stocks (with a bare few exceptions) will magically become felons as inert chunks of plastic mystically morph into post-’86 machineguns.

Hypothetically speaking (because none of TZP’s regular readers could possibly mean to become malum prohibitum criminals), what will/are you doing with your “bump-stock-type device?

Perhaps we’ll be seeing reports of “compliance”, especially the rubber band sort.
