If you haven’t heard, late last night, a US citizen with Islamic State sympathies murdered more than 50 people in a gay club in Orlando, Florida.
Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, armed with an AR-15 and a handgun – having passed all the necessary background checks as a security officer at G4S Secure Solutions, pledged his allegiance to ISIS in a 911 call during the attack.
Remember, this is a man who worked as a security officer. He passed all the background checks. He was born in the United States to Afghani parents – in New York. He was also a spouse abuser, according to his ex-wife, who claims he was violent and beat her.
She never pressed charges, apparently, and never reported him to the police, which means he was clean and would have and did pass every necessary background check – even though he was on the FBI’s terrorist watch list in 2013 and 2014.
Mateen is dead, but the fallout is just beginning.

Almost immediately, the usual suspects began calling for gun control. Celebrities such as Seth MacFarlane and Kirstie Alley immediately started screeching for a ban on automatic weapons on Twitter, while in a staggering bolt of stupid, the cast of the Broadway show Hamilton eliminated muskets from the musical.
In light of this tragedy, what do you think will happen next? Will the gun grabbers’ calls for “universal” background checks finally be successful? Will another “assault” weapons ban pass? Will those on terrorist watch lists be deprived of their right to keep and bear arms without due process? Let us know in comments.
Increments. They’re already coming at us in increments. a sub-category here, and a special class there. More lists, More baby steps.
Arm-waving and bloviation.
I chose ‘all of the above’.
I expect vigorous attempts by the usual crowd to push all forms of gun control; hope the liberty minded stick together and they fail miserably.
Those who believe in tyranny will continue to beat the drum of gun control until one day; they outlaw guns; AR’s, AK’s, handguns, sniper rifles (i.e a 30.06 with a scope, etc), then they will pay bounties to turn in a neighbor with a gun, set up road blocks to check all automobiles, and zero dark thirty anyone who they think has a gun and they will not knock first!
Everyone will have a choice, will you be an outlaw or will you submit;
WHAT WILL YOU CHOOSE?
Because your very life and that of your family may hang in that decision!
There a ring I wear that says and reminds me everyday;
When tyranny become law
Rebellion becomes duty!
I’m choosing the same as James. ‘all of the above’
They can pass all of the “laws” they want but IF the overwhelming majority of the gun owners refuse to participate they are stymied. As in Connecticut and their statewide ban on Eeeevil black rifles that only a smattering of gun owners obeyed.
I think I will change my vote to “None of the Above” although I expect a major push to pass all of the above.
I hold out a smidgeon of hope that good common sense will prevail and they won’t pass in spite of a massive attempt.. Even non-gunowners can see that an armed person could have lessened the damage in such an event as the bar in Orlando. Most will envision that person as a government officially authorized “guard-dog” but they still can “see” the effect of a gun to stop the killing.
So … please consider this as my “edit” of my previous comment.
I voted other, thinking that there will be little to no interest in closing our borders. This because of the leftists feelings. However, I think you are going to see a shift hard back to the right and away from the liberal media and way of beliefs. Things always come back to God in times of trouble and this is going to be just such a time.
I think a lot of stuff will get proposed (that’s not a prediction, really, it’s already happened), and nothing will actually pass. Then the grabbers will throw another tantrum about the NRA, but we won’t notice because it will look like part of the continuous tantrum they’ve been throwing forever.
I also spend time on a website that’s infested with proggies, and none of them are going into hysterics right now; they seem to be listening to the points I’ve been making. Freaky! Maybe the more intelligent ones, not clinical hoplophobes but just along for the ride, are starting to think about this.
Given that the stuff that gets proposed is all abominable, that’s a good thing.
