Ferguson: Thankful For The Founding Fathers’ Legal Legacy

“Ferguson: Thankful For The Founding Fathers’ Legal Legacy” is my current column, now on WND. An excerpt:

Grand-jury deliberations were conducted behind closed doors. The decision was announced at night. It was too dark. Jurors were given too much information to absorb. The St. Louis County prosecuting attorney was not sufficiently involved in the proceedings. The latter, Bob McCulloch, was too “cold” in sharing the cold, hard facts of the case with the public. His remarks were excessively long; or redundant all. The police were too passive in their response to the pillage that followed the unpopular decision.

These are a few of the complaints voiced by the “Racism Industrial Complex (RIC)” against a grand-jury decision in the shooting death of Michael Brown, in Ferguson, Missouri. A quorum of ordinary Americans has determined that Officer Darren Wilson was not “the initial aggressor,” that the officer “acted in self-defense”; that he “was authorized to use deadly force,” in a situation in which he found himself being punched—and then bull-rushed by a demonic-looking mountain of flesh, Michael Brown. …

… I hate to say it, but these riots are an object lesson as to what transpires in certain chaotic communities when the police practice peaceful resistance.

Let’s face it: Had St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch, a Democrat, opted for an open, probable-cause hearing before a judge, as opposed to convening a grand jury, the “Racism Industrial Complex”—forced to face a decision not to its liking—would be decrying the despotism of this single judge. They’d be calling for a jury of the people’s representatives, as bequeathed by the Founding Fathers, in the 5th Amendment of the Bill of Rights. The grand jury institution, as legal analyst Paul Callan has explained, “was actually created by the Founders to provide a wall of citizen protection against overzealous prosecutors.”

Had the decision been revealed in the AM, the RIC herd would have argued for a night-time reveal.

Had Mr. McCulloch meddled with the jury, he’d still be accused of rigging the outcome against Brown.

Had McCulloch hand-picked the evidence for the grand jury, instead of providing the 12 jurors with access to all of it—a “document dump,” brayed Big Media—he’d have been accused of concealing information.

Had the cops moved to curtail the crowds from “venting” over “legitimate issues,” caused by “the legacy of racial discrimination”—the president words—they’d have been convicted of police brutality.

As to the affective dimension, McCulloch’s alleged frigid demeanor: A silent majority whose “culture” is being crowded out still finds such WASPY mannerisms comforting and familiar; a sign of professionalism, dignity, decorum and rationality. Profoundly alien and disturbing was the wretched excesses of Michael Brown’s mother (Lesley McSpadden) and her new husband (Louis Head)—both of whom have had brushes with the law—howling, “Burn this bitch down.” …

… Read the rest. “Ferguson: Thankful For The Founding Fathers’ Legal Legacy” is now on WND.

Happy Thanksgiving.

The ‘Racism Industrial Complex’ Rides In Ferguson

Regrettably, at the time of the Michael-Brown shooting, this libertarian column had expressed the opinion that Brown was the victim of “murder-by-cop.” As the evidence subsequently demonstrated, I was wrong.

Part of my conversion lies is the remarks of St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch, a Democrat. These were, well, remarkable. (More about that in the weekly, WND column, tomorrow.) McCulloch’s remarks revealed the exhaustive scope of the search for truth undertaken by a grand jury that was left to its own devices.

Since the text of the statement has not been disseminated, I’ve transcribed and summarized some of it for interested Americans. Particularly brilliant is the manner in which McCulloch co-opted the DC “RIC”* in support of the rule of law, in Ferguson, Missouri:

St. Louis county police conducted an extensive investigation at the crime scene together with agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, at the direction of Attorney General Eric Holder. Together they sought out witnesses and gathered additional information over a period of three months, beginning on the day of the shooting death of Michael Brown. Fully aware of the growing concerns in parts of the community that the investigation and review of the death would not be full and fair, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch decided to hand over to a grand jury all physical evidence related to the case, all individuals claiming to have witnessed any aspect of the events and any and all related matters. The grand jury comprised of 12 members of the community.

Federal investigators worked closely with local law enforcement, with the St. Louis county police and persecutor and Attorney General Holder and his department vowing to follow where the evidence led. These federal investigators shared information with St. Louis county investigator and vice versa. In addition, the Department of Justice conducted its own investigation and performed its own autopsy. Yet another autopsy was carried out by the Brown family and all information was shared and collated. All testimony before the grand jury was immediate forwarded to the DOJ. Eyewitness accounts were compared with the physical evidence. Many witnesses contradicted their own statements and the physical evidence.

As an example of witness testimony that contradicted the physical evidence McCulloch offered numerous statements that claimed to have seen Officer Wilson stand above Michael Brown and fire many rounds into his back. Others claimed that Officer Wilson shot Mr. Brown in the back as he was running away. Once the autopsy was released showing that the deceased did not sustain injuries to his back, statements to that effect were retracted. Others admitted they had, in fact, not witnessed the shooting.

All statements were recorded and presented to the grand jury before the autopsy results were released. There was no “document dump,” as some media claimed. Two of Bob McCulloch’s assistants presented the information to the jury in an organized, systematic manner. All jurors heard every word of testimony and examined every item of evidence presented. McCulloch described a proactive and engaged group working since August 9th to do their due diligence. In the course of 25 days, the jury dissected over 70 hours of testimony and listened to 60 witnesses. They heard from three medical examiners and many other DNA and forensic experts. They examined hundreds of photographs and looked at various pieces of physical evidence. They were instructed in the law and presented with five possible indictments. Their burden was to determine, based on all the evidence, if probable cause existed to determine that a crime was committed and Daren Wilson committed that crime. There is no question that Officer Wilson caused the death of Michael Brown by shooting him. However the law authorizes an officer of the law, and all people, to use deadly force to defend themselves in certain situations. The grand jury considered whether Officer Wilson was the initial aggressor, or whether he was authorized to use deadly force in the situation and acted in self-defense.

They were the only people who examined every piece of evidence and heard every witness. They debated among themselves. After an exhaustive review of the evidence the grand jury deliberated further over two days to arrive at their final decision. And it is that no probable cause exists to file any charges against Officer Darren Wilson. They returned a “No True” bill on each of the five indictments. All the evidence, witness statements included, was made public.

** Coulter’s Blame-Liberals Reductionism/Rubbish. Ann Coulter’s latest column proves that in the structure of argument—and thus the source of culpability— there is no difference between conservative, lite-libertarian, and left liberal. That structure is: The Dog/Society/State/Liberals Ate the Criminal’s Homework. Ann Coulter blames liberals for rioter actions.

“‘Absolut’ Libertarian Lunacy” touches on this blame society/state/liberals reductionism: “For the sins of man, hard leftists blame society, and hard-core libertarians saddle the state. ‘The State made me do it’ is how such social determinism can be summed-up.”

Zidan Saif ~ A Credit to His People

ZS

When, earlier this month, great evil came to the Kehillat Bnai Torah Yeshiva Synagogue, at the western edge of Jerusalem, one of the first on the scene was a young man named Zidan Saif. He died trying to save the innocent from butchery reminiscent of the 1929 Arab Riots and Hebron Pogrom.

Mr. Saif was not a Jew. He was an Israeli Druze. The Druze, or as they call themselves, al-Muwaḥḥidūn, are a monotheistic community traditionally residing from the Upper Galilee to the Golan (the area where the borders of Israel, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon meet).

The Druze are said to trace their lineage back to the ancient Kenites. Yitro (Jethro), the father-in Law of Moses, was a Kenite. To this day the Druze revere Yitro as a great prophet; his grave, near Tiberias, is the most important Druze shrine.

The Kenites were also related to the house of Rahab, which joined the Israelites in saving the city of Yericho (Jericho).

The heroine, Yael, was married to “Hever – the Kenite”. In the time of Prophetess / Judge, Devorah, Yael sheltered the fleeing enemy general Sisera, plied him with dairy until he fell asleep, and then drove a tent-peg through his head.

Ten years ago the spiritual leader of the Druze; Sheikh Muwaffak Tarīf, called on all non-Jews to commit to making a “…better humane world based on the Seven Noahide Commandments and the values they represent commanded by the Creator to all mankind through Moses on Mount Sinai.”

Clearly, Zidan Saif lived a life steeped in the timeless values, personal bravery, and the culture of his ancient and proud people. He died with honor. He will be missed by many. May his memory be a blessing, and may his story be told for generations to come.

ADDENDUM:  His family, led by his father Sheikh Nuhad Seif, recently visited the synagogue.  http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/187969#.VHdfzmeOqSo

Thanksgiving

The world is in a red-hot mess. Barbarians rampage over the Middle East (and even on the streets of London and some places in the U.S.). Thugs burn and loot in the name of “social justice.” The Cold War seems to have risen from its grave. Billionaires crow with glee because they think they’ve finally found the key to disarming the rest of us. Hatred of Jews edges ever closer to the redline.

These aren’t great times to live.

But then, there have been worse. Black plague, anyone? An ice age? The aftermath of a supervolcano eruption? Hitler’s Germany? Stalin’s Ukraine?

All in all, even with perils everywhere, right now we have it pretty good — we who sit here reaching out to friends the world over via blogs and tweets and more new phone apps than a 20th-century person can keep track of.

I don’t know about you but I’m cozy and warm and looking forward to a low-key Thanksgiving. With that in mind, I’d like to mention a few things I’m thankful for and invite you, today and this weekend, to add your own in comments.

—–

I’m thankful …

For my fellow bloggers here at TZP. They are outstanding people and I have learned so much from them, reading their posts. Even though we’re still in the early stages, I think we did the right thing in creating The Zelman Partisans.

For those who’ve donated money and those who’ve cheered us on and asked, “When can I join?” or “Where can I buy TZP swag?” Thank you … and soon. Give us a few months to do all the background stuff.

For Aaron Zelman, whose legacy deserves to live on. He was a real mensch. A pain in the wahzoo sometimes, but a mensch.

For those who are rallying against the billionaires’ dream law, I-594 in Washington.

For those in the (for want of a better term) black states — Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, Colorado, you know who you are — who’ve defied and fought back. And for people like Mike Vanderboegh who inspire them and stand with them even when their own lives really suck. Speaking of Mike, if you want swag, go buy a hat from him.

For friends I’ve never met.

For the amazing, astonishing, wonderful people who helped keep the roof over my head this year — and then who contributed more (without even being asked) when another section of roof sagged in.

For California dried apricots! And other intriguingly apricotty things.

For Ava and Robbie, who at 9 and 13 have finally matured into being really, really good dogs (as long as you overlook Ava’s regrettable tendency to snack on Chihuahuas).

For 3D printing and the smart, bold firearm designers who are making sure that the billionaires’ dreams will never, ever come true. That so many are giving their designs freely to the world is wonderful; clearly they know what’s at stake here.

For Dutch apple pie, soft wool to knit, beautiful custom-made knives to admire, and the life-saving power of firearms in caring hands, I’m thankful.

And that so far, there’s neither plague nor supervolcanoes hereabouts.

That’s just for starters. How about you?

Some thoughts on Ferguson

Well, not that it was unexpected.

The riots, looting, and destruction were the culmination of weeks of threats the savages of Ferguson issued if the grand jury did not return the  verdict they desired.

The city is burning, and they were ready for war.

They were ready for “war,” because somehow the decision of their fellow citizens based on scientific evidence became a personal slight – an opportunity to project every miserable  event in their lives onto this one event and blame others for what they perceive to be their lousy lot in life.

I’m not good at expressing very many feelings, other than rage.

One of my assignments in grad school for my class in intelligence profiling was to develop a profile of myself. After careful self-analysis, I realized that my background as a Soviet Jew is the reason for my visceral reactions to injustice.

I wrote that injustice – whether it’s the force of the state against the individual, the force of the strong taking advantage and abusing the weak – whether the elderly, defenseless animals, or babies – or the force of those who gather in a mob to abuse those whom they perceive to be ready victims – makes me cry.

It ties my stomach up in knots.

The sheer intensity of the rage I feel takes my breath away.

The helplessness – the inability to do anything to help level the playing field – the utter despair I feel becomes physical pain.

It’s that pain that I felt when I stared down the barrel of a Soviet-made AK in Chop – that little border town in western Ukraine after the guards took my dad away for no reason other than to humiliate the Jews.

That’s the kind of pain and rage I feel when I see the looting Neanderthals victimizing innocent people in savage hordes.

Why?

It’s not because some kind of injustice happened in that grand jury hearing! It’s no because the jury was wrong, or racist, or somehow prejudiced against Michael Brown.

It’s because the jury did its job. They examined forensic reports, listened to testimony from eyewitnesses and others, read multiple written documents,  (the entire pack of documents is linked here) and in the end, they chose not to indict.

The justice system worked. Whether or not you like or agree with the results, based on the reams of evidence they examined, the grand jury did its due diligence and decided not to return the indictment.

That is called justice.

But that’s not why these looters are rioting. They don’t care about justice. They were planning riots long before the decision not to indict came down. They were planning to victimize innocent people – people who were maybe more successful, more well off, and better situated than they were.

And because these miserable, thieving Neanderthals need someone to blame for their lousy lot in life, they chose to project their grievances onto this one case, and to punish those who represent the wealth and success they would not work to achieve.

THAT’s what this is about. It’s a herd of barbarians taking the opportunity to exact vengeance for some nebulous slights against innocent people who had nothing to do with the grand jury decisions.

Merely because they could.

They had bricks, incendiary devices, numbers, and the willingness to victimize others.

Gun sales spiked in preparation for the decision in this case, according to CNN. Many chose not to rely on police to protect themselves and their property, but to take responsibility for their own lives and livelihoods.

That did not stop the looting hordes from setting local businesses and vehicles on fire.  What did the owners of Little Caesar’s Pizza and Auto Zone ever do to these animals?

Nothing. They looted and burned businesses, because they were there. Because this was the opportunity to take out all their rage on someone – anyone! It was the opportunity to, for once, in their miserable, decaying lives, to show their strength, rather than fester in their weakness!

I know I’m not good at expressing my emotions. I know I tend to focus more on factual information, links, evidence, etc.

But this…

This injustice – not the grand jury decision, which by all available evidence was reached after a thorough preponderance of the evidence presented – but the repugnant display of force against innocent people…

…this savagery makes me sick!

It should make anyone sick!

It should evoke tears, rage, horror, and shock.

This is the devolution of our society – the chaos and the agonizing shambles – that comes from this entitlement mentality: the mentality that allows sub-human swine to victimize innocent people en masse, because they somehow feel they somehow have the right to do so as a demonstration of their own impotent rage.

I’m so glad many in Ferguson chose to arm themselves! I’m grateful people began to realize how critical the ability to defend themselves is. I only fear that not enough of them chose to do so.

Follow The Leader

I’ve been following the increase in attacks on peaceful citizens in Israel. It seems the Arabs cant’ throw a rock without hitting a Jew in Israel. This is because that is their aim, along with throwing firebombs, and fireworks being thrown at citizens, and now the “peaceful” muslims are adding in knife attacks.

What could be behind this? Well, perhaps the leader Mahmoud Abbas? With Abbas, the reward from terrorism is good.

A Hamas member used a van to mow down pedestrians at two points along the capital’s light rail line midday Wednesday, killing one and wounding some 14 others, several critically. The fatality, Cap. Jidan Assad, 38, a Border Police officer from the Druze village of Beit Jaan, and the wounded were crossing the street when they were hit by the speeding vehicle, according to police. Assad is survived by a pregnant wife and a three-year-old son, according to Ynet News.

Abbas, in a condolence letter to the family of a Hamas terrorist who shot and severely wounded an Israeli-American last Wednesday, called the return fire by police which killed Muataz Hijazi a “sickening crime,” and “assassination which was perpetrated by the murderous, terrorist gangs of the despicable Israeli occupying army…”

Nor are attacks confined to groups of people with 3 month old babies. People traveling home from work on routes they usually take are finding things far more dangerous.

A brave group of Arab boys attacked a menacing group of Jewish School girls on a field trip by throwing rocks at them injuring one student and a teacher.

And now we have the latest horrific attack on Jews in Israel at Har Nof Synagogue. It is a escalation of what has been going on for some time. I’m so cynical I don’t even ask “why” anymore.

Well, ok, I ask why a lot. In fact, that is kind of how the genesis of this column started last week. I was talking to someone Friday, and I think if he heard “aval lama”, “but why” one more time I was going to have a pair of socks in my mouth. I was asking about the Temple Mount.

The Temple Mount is the first holiest site in Judaism, the third holiest in islam, and they persist in calling it the al-aqsa mosque. It has always baffled me that the Temple Mount is located in Israel, the Jewish state, is the holiest site in Judaism and Jews are not allowed to go there to pray. For that matter Christians aren’t real safe there either I don’t think. And part of what keeps the Jews from being allowed to pray on the Temple Mount are the Israeli police. Huh? These are their own people, they keep them from praying? The Israeli Police it seems, are trying to keep a bad situation from erupting into riots. Too late! Although the lack of anything other than muslims on the Temple Mount has not stopped muslims from carrying out attacks on civilians. And using the Temple Mount as they have hospitals and schools in Gaza as a terror base. In October the Police were forced to lock rioters in a building on the Temple Mount as Jews were allowed in for Sukkot.

How can this be? On June 7th, 1967 Jerusalem was reunited and The Temple Mount came under Israeli and Jewish control from the first time in about 2,000 years. The Shofar was sounded at the Western Wall by General Rabbi Shlomo Goren of the IDF to announce the liberation. It was considered a gift from G-d.

“We have returned to all that is holy in our land. We have returned never to be parted from it again.”
–Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, upon reaching the Western Wall

Unfortunately, “never” is a very short time in Dayan’s world at that point. Within days he had unilaterally ceded control of the Temple Mount back to the Jordanian Waqf, I find just thinking of them as “wack-o” works.

So while Prime Minister Levi Eshkol envisioned a committee made up of the various religions overseeing the Temple Mount, from the moment Dayan ceded control to the Jordanian wack-o faction, the dream of all faiths being allowed to worship and pray at the Temple Mount basically died.

A prominent Israeli Rabbi and activist Yehuda Glick works to allow increased access for Jews to the Temple Mount and has been doing so for a number of years. The absurdity of the situation is in full display by his arrest with his goat by Israeli police. This year it lead to an assassination attempt on his life.

I would count Yehuda Glick as a leader.

Far from the Temple Mount being a place where all faiths can now come to pray, it is becoming yet another terror stronghold for muslims. Not because they treat and value it as a Holy place, but because Jews and Christians do.

And this fight is not about religion, although that is certainly an element of it. Muslims are commanded in the quran to give “infidels”, that would be non-muslims, a chance to convert before they kill them.

If this were only about the Temple Mount, you wouldn’t hear statements from Hamas and Hezbollah denying the right of Israel to exist, and that they want to drive them into the sea. Nor would you be seeing attacks like the horrifying one in Har Nof. This is about killing people, a blind hatred.

I respect and admire Bibi Netanyahu, but I think he is off the mark when he says they will maintain the status quo on the Temple Mount. Although what that is, is hard to say. It’s certainly not what it was meant to be.

But when there are terrorist attacks in Israel, Bibi does respond, and he does take action. The houses of the terrorists are to be demolished. And he calls it what it is, a terrorist attack.

I do think there is absolutely and element of Spiritual warfare going on here. If attacks like the one in Har Nof can prevent people from going to Synagogue to learn, pray and worship? Then evil wins. But those people were no where near the Temple Mount when they were butchered. This was an attack on people because of who they were. Part of what makes them who they are is what they believe.

Another source of terror is “infiltrators”. In America they are called “undocumented democrats”. The difference in Israel is that the “infiltrators” are looking for jobs. In America, not so much. The areas where there are large groups of infiltrators the residents of the area live in fear. Israel has passed an infiltrator law but the point has been raised that the solution is even simpler than that. And they do need a solution, one Synagogue has been shut down, and Holocaust survivors are afraid to leave their apartment building. Again, preventing people from worship.

“I think the law is like treating cancer with Tylenol,” Komash, who is active in Tel Aviv, where infiltrators have largely taken over the central bus station, said.

“Putting the illegal infiltrators in detention for three years, building facilities, investing so much money for 10,000 infiltrators or 5,000 – that’s just not the solution,” he added. “What will they do with the remaining 40,000?”

“I think we simply need to send them back to their country,” he said. “The left simply defends them because most of them are Muslims, Christians and the left wants a state of all its citizens. But there’s no connection here. They’re not refugees, they’re infiltrators. They say themselves that they’re looking for a job here. It’s a simple solution: Sudanese to Sudan, Zionists to Zion.”~~Avi Komash

I do not believe for a second that Bibi is a stupid man, I think he knows and sees what is going on.

I think Bibi is a good leader.

What could be some of the issues that are constraining him from perhaps taking action against segments of the population that are terrorizing and killing his citizens?

Well, one answer I would think would be obama. Look at how obama responded to the attack at the Har Nof Synagogue. His statements seemed to imply that both sides were responsible, and called for both sides to rein in extremists. I am unaware of any Jews or Christians breaking into mosques and slaughtering innocent people. This does not serve Israel well, in my opinion.

A long time ago, I learned in a class about “shark bumps”. A shark will bump prospective victim (dinner) before it attacks, to see what will happen. If it fights back, it’s possible the shark will move on to easier prey. If not? It gets out the BBQ sauce. It is the same with criminal sharks. The guy that puts the hair up on the back of your neck when he asks you for the time? Or wants you to come closer to his car so he can ask for directions? Or stares you in the eyes and makes you uncomfortable? Do not respond meekly. It’s probably your intuition trying tell you “shark bump”. There have been SO many “shark bumps” in Israel. And the violence is getting worse because they haven’t been addressed with a harpoon.

As this Times of Israel article points out, the response coming out of the obama administration seems to differ depending on who the victims of the crime are. I am afraid because of the close relationship Israel and America have had in the past, pressure from the obama administration may affect Bibi’s responses.

Let’s look at how obama handles these types of situations in America.

Because obama is consistent. When the muslim nidal hasan murdered 13 soldiers at Ft. Hood, obama deemed it “workplace violence” rather than a terrorist attack.

Just as all religions are not treated equally on the Temple Mount in Israel, the same double standard seems to apply in America.

Jews are afraid of muslims on the Temple Mount, and they are not to pray there. In America if you are Jewish or Christian, you are not to pray in school. A recent change that one is. I can get you quite a few more of those. On the other hand, let’s see how schools are handling the religion of peace. Well, it seems there was an exercise, shall we call it, where a Nation of Islam document was used in a classroom that portrayed the founding fathers as racist. And, as I suspect we will see this more often now that many of the states have sold out to Common (rotten to the) Core. The children were told not to take the handout home, or talk to their parents about the exercise. Or the assignment where 10th graders made up islamic pamphlets to be designed for 3rd graders. No one seems to be able to find which week the schools will be teaching about empathy for Christianity or Judaism. Or this delightful exercise in a California school where based on the information the 8th graders were given, they came to the logical conclusion that the holocaust was fabricated for political gain, another common core exercise that one. You really should read that story, but make sure you have something to settle your stomach and outrage handy when done.

They reached that decision based upon the information the teacher gave them, and they were denied access to check other sources. If you look at how CNN, a faux news station covered the murders in the Synagogue, not only once, but twice, you begin see the specter of Julius Streicher arising. Those headlines go so well with obama calling on both sides to restrain extremists. Sounds sensible except again, one side isn’t slaughtering anyone. One side is just trying to survive things like rockets being fired out of a hospital or school in Gaza.

So in Israel and America, I think we see quite a difference in how the different religions are treated. How and what the people are allowed to do. What the state will and will not allow differs for the different groups quite a bit.

What do we see that is similar? Well, at the top of this story, the section from the story on how Mahmoud Abbas handled the killing of a terrorist by sending a letter of condolence to his family is quite similar to how obama chose to deal with a similar situation. There was a muslim in Oklahoma that beheaded a co-worker and was attempting to kill another one when he was shot and killed by the business owner who had a CCW. Rather than sending someone to investigate the mosque that spawned the killer, the DHS sent a Director with a “Thank You” note from obama to the mosque. It read in part

“Your service is a powerful example of the powerful roots of the Abrahamic faiths and how our communities can come together with shared peace with dignity and a sense of justice.”….

Yes, well.

Obama is not a leader worth following. Obama has an agenda that he is trying to ram down the throats of Americans, and for that matter, to an extent, Israel. Abbas is leading, his people are following and CNN, MSNBC and probably most of the lamestream media refuse to show it for what it is. My question last Friday was answered with “Poor leadership”. How, why could these things happen. “Poor leadership, not a strong leader”. Why would we in America think that things will turn out differently for us? Do you not think that we will begin to see attacks like the one at Har Nof? Most Church, and Synagogues are gun free zones. I hope and pray that will begin to change, and soon. Both in America and Israel.

But for that to happen, we will have to have real leadership. The kind of leader that loves this country and her freedom and wants to ensure it. As my esteemed colleague Y.B. Ben Avraham points out, we must strive to be leaders. I would add we must confront evil, to confront it, we must recognize it. We must do these things if we wish to live in a free society, to worship and live as we choose. And again, Y.B. is correct. The fate of the world hangs in the balance.

This video was shot at Berkley in CA. These are potential future leaders. This lunacy is part of what we strive to confront and stop.

The future leaders of the muslim world? They were eating candy to celebrate the massacre at Har Nor Synagogue.

Har Nof (updated)

Yesterday, two men disguised as worshipers entered a synagogue in the western Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Nof, with knives, axes, guns, and most importantly, evil in their hearts. At an opportune moment they started slashing, chopping and shooting the Jews praying therein.Har Nof

For eleven minutes, before police arrived, they wantonly slaughtered. Five were killed, and over thirty severely injured. The dead include Rabbi Moshe Twersky, hy”d, ‘Rosh Kollel’ for the ‘Torat Moshe’ yeshiva; Rabbi Kalman Levine, hy”d; Aryeh Kupinsky, hy”d, and Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, hy”d. A policeman who engaged them early on was severely wounded. Savaged victims and their blood was everywhere. People with half their faces slashed off ran out of the building.

Many in the firearms community cite Israel as some sort of bastion of firearms freedoms. That is an error. While it is true that one sees young people, fresh from graduating high school, with select-fire rifles slung on their backs, and in Judea and Samaria it is a bit easier to obtain a community weapon or permit, in reality, the “freedoms” look much more like Chicago or NYC than say, Arizona. Everything is by permission, and licensure, and the restrictions have been getting much more restrictive and onerous, in practice, especially in the large metropolitan areas.

Worse, although they face the spectre of violent death, from within and without, every day, from gunmen, human bombs, missiles, and even cars maniacally driven into three-month-old babies in strollers, the average Israeli has an aversion to guns, typical of the entrenched Ghetto Mentality. Thus, the government of modern Israel, aptly described as a “Schizophrenic State”, is the odd admixture of Anglophilic Fabian Socialism, Western Modernity, and Eternal Judaism, has sought to emulate the worst of American and European self-defense laws.

And, today, for the thousandth – maybe the ten thousandth – time, just in modern history, we see the results. Butchery… And a too-late, but valiant, response by the police.

Well… at long last, in the wake of this outrage, there is movement in the right direction. Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich has announced the “easing” of restrictions on obtaining firearms permits. Ah, but the new “easing” only applies to those already possessing “ a license to carry a gun, such as private security guards and off-duty army officers”. Pardon my language, but BFD.

Remember just what licensure really is. The government takes an otherwise peaceful and consensual act and tells you that if you do it they will respond by stealing your money, enslaving you, caging you, or, if need be, killing you outright. On the other hand, sometimes, for their convenience, the government might waive some of that threat. They do so conditionally, in exchange for money, vexation, and especially your formal acceptance of the rectitude and justice of their power over you. That is a license or permit.

Ahronovitch, the political toady, and his associates, have these peoples blood on THEIR hands. In a just society, THEY should be held to account as accessories to countless murders and maimings.

UPDATE.  The officer noted above, Mr. Zidan Seyf, age 27, has died of his wounds, bringing the death toll to five.    Officer Seyf was from from the northern Israel town of Yanuh-Jat, near Akko.  He leaves behind a wife, a four-month-old baby, parents and five brothers.

“You’re paranoid.”

“The government isn’t after your guns.”

“Nobody wants to confiscate your guns.”

“Registration doesn’t lead to confiscation.”

How many times have we heard gun control advocates snottily ridicule us for knowing our own history? For understanding the nature of statism?

“This isn’t Nazi Germany,” they say. “No one is going to disarm you and victimize you.”

“Registration is a safety measure,” they claim. “It’s a crime prevention measure.”

Is it? From Buffalo, NY comes a report that details a plan by the police department in that city to begin confiscating firearms of legal gun owners after their deaths.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derrenda said at a press conference last week that the department will be sending people to collect guns that belong to pistol permit holders who had died so “they don’t end up in the wrong hands.” The department will cross reference pistol permit holders with death records and the guns will be collected when possible, he said.

Derrenda said guns pose a threat if their owner is no longer alive to safeguard them, especially if a recently-deceased gun owner’s home is burglarized.

[…]

The state law says that if the permit holder dies, the estate has 15 days to dispose of the guns or turn them in to authorities, who can hold the weapons up to two years. LoHud.com reported that violation of the law by survivors is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine.

So how will the police department find out whether the deceased had a gun? Carry permits? ATF 4473 forms, which licensed firearms dealers have to retain for at least 20 years?

While not “technically” registration, these records give the authorities the tools they need to confiscate firearms – to steal them from the families of the deceased when they are grieving and vulnerable – to violate basic property rights.

And Buffalo isn’t the only place where this odious infringement on basic human rights has happened.

In Connecticut, cowardly politicians rammed through a registration requirement for all firearms they deemed to look scary.  Gun owners resisted, and the majority of what these pusillanimous twits call “assault” weapons remained unregistered.  A few tried to register at the last minute, before the suspense, they wound up in limbo. The state now had their ownership information, and began confiscation proceedings against these gun owners, claiming they illegally held their property.

The state is sending letters to 106 rifle owners and 108 residents with high-capacity magazines saying they can destroy the guns and ammunition, sell them to a federally licensed gun dealer, move the items out of state or sell them to somebody out of state, or make arrangements to turn them over to local or state police.

Those who fail to do so could face serious criminal penalties.

In California, a de facto registration law signed by Jerry Brown in 2011 required the state to retain background-check records of those who purchase guns (although it did not register specific guns to specific people.) And you know what happened? Reason magazine explained in January.

The new law will bolster a program that has generated much controversy. Earlier this month, legislators held hearings on the effectiveness of the Armed Prohibited Persons System, used to confiscate the firearms of California residents who are no longer eligible to own them. The California Department of Justice relies on the current ownership lists to identify gun owners and cross check those with lists of people who have been convicted of crimes or have been involuntarily committed for mental issues.

The state auditor found, in a report released in October, that the department has not sufficiently notified courts and mental-health officials of their reporting requirements. Despite a new $24-million state appropriation, the auditor found that the program has failed to take guns from nearly 21,000 Californians who have forfeited their gun rights.

Not enough for you?

Registration led to confiscation in Australia, and Barack Obama wants to make that nation an example for the United States. (Yes, I know the link is RT – the Kremlin funded propaganda machine – but in this case, it’s actually correct reporting.)

After the 1996 Port Arthur massacre in Australia, its government passed the National Firearms Agreement, banning all semiautomatic rifles and semiautomatic and pump-action shotguns and imposing a more restrictive licensing system on other firearms. They also implemented a mandatory gun “buyback” – also known as confiscation (with perhaps a nominal payment for the owner’s property).

Those who do not remember history are, indeed, doomed to repeat it. That is the warning Canadian news anchor Brian Lilley  gave his American neighbors last year when he emphasized that registration did, in fact, lead to confiscation in Canada.

And in my birthplace – the USSR – firearm registration was introduced in 1918, which led to confiscation of weapons from everyone but… you guessed it… members of the Communist Party, with a stint in jail for anyone who possessed firearms and wasn’t a member. This was how Communists cemented their power over the hated bourgeoisie – those business owners, capitalists, and other undesirables whom they wanted to keep defenseless.

Those of us who grew up in tyrannical holes understand only too well that registering people for exercising their natural rights can only lead to the demise of those rights. Those of us who have studied history understand this as well.

Those who ignorantly seek to treat their fellow Americans like criminals merely for daring to exercise their rights either forgot their history, or are ignoring it.

Those of us who remember history never had any doubt about the end result of registration.

Getting Closer to the Mass Raids

As readers of this weblog may already know, despite Elephantine high-fiving, several influential pro-victim disarmament politicians were retained in office and a very wide-ranging firearm transfer/registration scheme was passed in the State of Washington.

Using the pretext of various tragic, yet fortuitously timed shootings, several states now have turned thousands of peace-loving average people into armed felons. The State of New York is even now going to surviving spouses of firearm permit holders to seize those guns.

For many years, freedom oriented groups have warned the police that if their pinstriped masters continue on this path, that THEY, the police, would be forced to be the “point of the spear”; the guys who knock on the thousands of armed everyman’s doors. And wonder if they get to go home again. That time may have come.

The response of the law-enforcement community has been very interesting. All but the upper echelons are quite unhappy. Some county sheriffs are openly stating they will not cooperate. The politicos are furiously handling their tar-baby. Still, elitist ideologues like Bloomberg, Cuomo, Malloy, Hickenlooper, and Gates are proceeding apace.

On November 16th 1940 the Nazi’s closed off the “Jüdischer Wohnbezirk in Warschau” from the outside world. Once sealed with brick and mortar, the Nazis evacuated 113,000 Gentile Poles and filled it back with 138,000 doomed Jews.

Over time the population of this “Warsaw Ghetto” was increased to about 400,000. From this warehouse of human beings, the Nazis extracted slave laborers for their war effort and carefully arranged for the extermination of the rest at Treblinka.

By 1942 the Nazi’s plans were so clear and conditions were so dire that resistance groups began spring up both within the Ghetto and in the concentration camps themselves. From this came many revolts in the Ghettos and Camps and, most notably, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, itself, of April 19th 1943.

By late 1943, a few survivors of the European abattoir had fled some fifteen hundred miles away, to their ancient homeland, trying to rebuild their lives. They were members of The Zionist youth organization, HeHalutz ~ The Pioneer and Hashomer Hatzair ~ The Youth Guard. Mordechai Anielowicz, head of the Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa ~ Jewish Fighting Organization has been a member of Hashomer Hatzair back in Warsaw.

Members of HeHalutz had established an agricultural kibbutz in 1926 in British Mandatory Palestine (Israel) at Ramat Hakovesh , which translates to the Heights of the Conqueror.

Since the 1929 Arab riots and the Hebron Masacre, attacks, with the tacit support of the British, were growing more frequent and more vicious. Anything resembling effective defense against attack was vigorously supressed by the British.

Disgusted, the Palmach had stopped cooperating with the British the year before. But, Allied Polish soldiers had been quietly arming the Jews in these remote settlements for some time.

Claiming to be searching for deserters of the Polish Army, the British soldiers, and Polish MP’s raided Ramat Hakovesh on November 16th 1940. What they actually were after were those hidden stockpiles of guns and ammunition. They tore the place apart; ripped houses down, arrested dozens, and, in their zeal, killed a man named Shmuel Velinitz. No deserters were found, of course. But lots of guns and ammunition were found, and seized.

Two years later the British tried again, this time with the aid of the Haganah. They were soundly rebuffed, and the area was declared a “No Go Zone” for British military units. These, and similar raids, often held with the aid of allied Jewish forces, consistently eroded public support for Mandatory civil institutions. With each passing year, fewer sat on the fence. More, quietly joined the resistance, or turned a blind eye to it.

Eventually, the British were so hated that they withdrew into barbed-wire surrounded encampments, laughingly called Bevingrads, after British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin, the point-man on  refusing the Jewish refugees’ entry into Israel.

The raids and arrests also yielded the growth of organizations such as Ha-Irgun Ha-Tzvai Ha-Leumi be-Eretz Yisrael ~ The National Military Organization in the Land of Israel (popularly known as ETZEL or the Irgun), and Lohamei Herut Israel – Lehi ~ Fighters for the Freedom of Israel – Lehi (derisively known as “The Stern Gang”).

Highly controversial, these groups indisputably aided in the protection of Jewish lives, and the liberation of the Land of Israel from British Military occupation.
