U.S. Jewish Groups Strengthen Security Infrastructure

One would think that taking responsibility for their own safety in the wake of horrific attacks on the synagogue at Har Nof and increased anti-Semitic sentiments both in the United States and in Europe would be a wise thing for every Jew to do. I certainly was thrilled to read in the Washington Post that U.S. Jewish institutions were beginning to examine their security…

Until I actually read the Washington Post article.

The security structure called Secure Community Network that allows Jews and other religious groups to share intelligence among themselves has been around since 2004. But now, the groups have become more intent on protecting their own.

Last month’s attack on a Jerusalem synagogue popular with Americans is the kind of thing that spurs U.S. institutions to look at their security. Since 2004, a primary clearinghouse for information and training on how to handle potential threats has been the Secure Community Network – a nonprofit created that year to beef up security at U.S. Jewish institutions.

The group, founded by several major Jewish institutions, also created an information-sharing network meant to connect Christian, Muslim and other faith groups to help one another if they learn something about a hate group that could potentially threaten others. It trains people on things including how to know whether to hire private security if you are attending or participating in a demonstration.

It all sounds well and good, right? Except, that the training it provides is “lock yourself in your office, and hope an active shooter doesn’t get you while you wait for law enforcement to arrive.” At what point do Jews say, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!” and stop acting like sheep by relying on the government to do the protecting for them?

At what point do they begin to understand that waiting for the police to arrive on the scene while an active shooter or an active stabber rampage through the building is not an optimal response (or lack thereof)?

Sharing information is good. Being aware of your surroundings is definitely useful. Having advance warning of potential attacks is critical. If this public/private partnership can help, terrific!

But why does it not provide tactical training? Why are these groups still shunning what is the most effective means of self defense today in favor of cowering in a locked office and praying for the police to show up? Why rely on police or armed security to protect you, when just one individual with a gun can stop a rampage? (For evidence of this, look no further than Jeanne Assam, who stopped a rampaging lunatic at New Life Church in Colorado in 2007.)

If Jews and other religious groups want to effectively strengthen their security, they should consider firearms training. Until they stop fearing guns and panicking hysterically at Bloomberg-funded anti-gun propaganda, their steps to protect themselves will be only perfunctory at best.

Mike vs. Hoplophobe

What happens when a famous science fiction author, gun rights advocate and gun enthusiast takes on an angry, frothing, hysterical hoplophobe?

It’s a TKO. I know of no one who can dismantle an anti-gun zealot better than Michael Z. Williamson, so it’s worth your time to read the entire article. But here’s just a snippet below:

Gun freaks say if you take away their guns only outlaws will have guns. That’s a chance worth taking. Because if we ban guns, eventually the tide will turn. It might take 10 years or 20 years. Hell, it might take 50 years. But if we make it illegal to own a handgun, eventually there will be no handguns.

I have functional guns from 1872 in my collection.  In the UK, criminals convert dummy and airsoft guns to fire bullets.  Once again, the gun freak (you), opens his ignorant yap about a subject without doing the faintest modicum of research. That’s probably why you’re in “reporting,” the Special Olympics of writing. Real writers have to do research.

Let the hunters keep their rifles and shotguns; those weapons are ineffective tools in a mass shooting.

BWUAHAHAHAAHA!  You went full retard.  Never go full retard.   Your typical deer rifle has 3 times the muzzle energy of an “assault weapon” (please define what that is for me.  Go ahead) and about 10 times that of a handgun. But they’re “ineffective.”  Because nothing that can kill a bull elk could be useful for killing people.

Mike’s language and sarcasm can be strong, so be warned. That said, there’s nothing more fun than watching a professional author take down a sniveling, barely educated coward.

I give it a decided thumbs up.

Know Your Reptiles

I just can’t stand the thought that our readers might think that the Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is some kind of bumbling incompetent nincompoop. CERTAINLY NOT! Now I do grant you that those who have heard this clip below might be given to that impression.

But that is not the case. Let’s just look at a few things. There is the point put out by Missouri First, a citizen lobbying group that stated when Gov. Jay called out the National Guard prior to the riots that he did so illegally.

But that shouldn’t be shocking if you understand some backstory. Don’t you love backstory? You just get a much better appreciation for the puzzle pieces. I think you will agree, Gov. Jay is not just the mere bumbling idiot he appears to be.

Lets just step into the way back machine, to oh, say a couple years ago, to what Missourians call the “DOR scandal”. In May 2009, Missouri becomes one of the 14 States to ban REAL ID implementation as part of the federal REAL ID Act opt-out provision – signed into law by Governor Jay Nixon. But then information came to light that now exposed that the anti-REAL ID State Statute was immediately ignored and circumvented by Department of Revenue (DOR). We know this, because in 2010 DHS Secretary J-Nap sent a letter to Gov. Jay thanking him for his state’s compliance with the REAL ID act.  What did that mean for Missourians? It means their private data, that was never suppose to leave the state was sent to MorphoTrustUSA, a company with a spotty record for keeping data secure. It also meant where before the DOR took your photo and you waited 20-30 minutes for it, depending on how busy that particular office was, they now took a biometric photo of you and sent your info to MorphoTrustUSA, who then kept it in a database. Your new driver’s license or CCW card (Missouri Concealed Carry holders can have their endorsement on either a driver’s license or a state non-driver’s ID) will have a RFID chip embedded in it. This makes it handy for tracking the person. One by one Department of Motor Vehicle offices were being changed over to use the new biometric cameras. And the taxpayer funded old cameras were either being destroyed or turned over to MorphoTrustUSA. So, did taxpayers have to pay for the new biometric equipment? Wellllll, nooooo. Because Gov. Jay took money for the new equipment from DHS. Gov. Jay is really good at selling out different groups of people for his thirty pieces of silver. He also sold out Missouri’s school children to common core, but that’s another story. Of course the DOR under Gov. Jay initially lied to the legislature when they began to investigate. At first they denied taking money, then they said they used the few million dollars to buy hole punches and routers, and other office equipment. Yeahhh, right. It finally came out though. A bit more about Oracle & MorphoTrustUSA from The Missouri Family Network.

Missouri DOR implements two private contracts it had acquired to facilitate the plans of Missouri’s REAL ID “comparable” system.  One contract is with the Oracle group, contracted to build and maintain the platforms for a database system to store, search, and share, scanned source documents of all Missouri driver and non-driver licensees, and CCW endorsed citizens.  The second contract is with MorphoTrust USA (headquartered in New Jersey with production facilities in Atlanta, GA.  (MorphoTrust is a SAFRAN Company based out of Paris, France whose top CEO is a Muslim Imam.)

The ever eloquent Gov. Jay had a helpful minion in this task. Jackie Bemboom. You can go to The Missouri Family Network web site for a recap of this fiasco and read the section on Jackie Bemboom. She broke the law. She broke the law that Gov. Jay signed, and yet, shock and astonishment, she is still drawing a government paycheck! Try that where you work and get back to me on how it works out for you. So you can tell Gov. Jay was VERY displeased with his minion!

So, what else did Gov. Jay do? Well, he also had the DOR turn over a list of the entire concealed carry holder data base to the Social Security administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Better know as the BATFE. Yes indeedy, Gov. Jay gave a list of gun owners, the kind that tend to be sheepdogs to the Fast & Furious Gang. Of course he lied about it. People that have committed no crime, have been turned over to the ATF.

It was sent by the Missouri Highway Patrol, obviously not “Oathkeepers”. Would you like to know how they sent it? On an unencrypted disc, in an Excel file, with a password in the letter sent WITH the disc, through the US mail. Twice, at least they did this.

This interview with State Senator Kurt Schaefer is well worth listening to when he appeared on the Dana show.

So back to Gov. Jay, in case you don’t know it, he’s a BIG time barry, er, barak, er, whatever his name is this week, fan.

Remember Obama’s “The Police acted stupidly” when they were going to arrest Prof. Gates? Or inserting himself into the Trayvon Martin shooting “If I had a son”? He speaks without finding out the facts, and when he does, he seems to side with the wrong side. Here’s Gov. Jay doing his best barry, er bara, never mind, obama impression. Don’t just listen to the nice-ey nice first part. Realize he thinks the thug was taken from the family and we need to confront racism. And calls for a “vigorous prosecution” in the shooting death of Michael Brown. Huh? His sympathy is certainly not with the law enforcement officer doing his job who’s life was threatened and now his world torn apart.

So, Gov. Jay illegally called out the National Guard too soon, so why did Ferguson burn? Why the riots. Ok, the rioters submitted an idiotic list of demands, but did Gov. Jay have to follow them? Why did it take the National Guard so long?

That’s the question Ferguson Mayor James Knowles asked, rightfully so I might say.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder also had a theory on WHY no National Guard response to protect the businesses and citizens of Gov. Jay’s state? Why didn’t he protect his own citizens?

Lt.Gov. Kinder raises the question, did the obama/holder administration lean on Gov. Jay to keep the National Guard at bay? In this list of 10 things, check #8. Knowing Gov. Jay tries to curry favor with obama, it’s a good guess, that yes, to make obama happy, he would keep out the National Guard at the expense of his own citizens.

What shops were spared? Those with their own armed guards. Like the gas station in this story. No, it wasn’t the owner. The owner is white, the guards that showed up to protect the gas station were black. Kindness repaid with kindness, well, and AR-15s.

So, if people like Gov. Jay and State Senator Maria Chappell-Nadal want to pretend this is about race, and not about a criminal they choose to glorify, perhaps they REALLY need to bone up on some facts.

Now, don’t you feel like you have a better understanding of what has been going on in Ferguson? Don’t you feel like you’ve got a bit more of an understanding of the kind of man at the helm of the State of Missouri? Backstory, gotta love it. Backstory=Know Your Reptiles.

I’ll leave you with some rather interesting information from the always enlightening Bill Whittle.

Some thoughts on Ferguson

Well, not that it was unexpected.

The riots, looting, and destruction were the culmination of weeks of threats the savages of Ferguson issued if the grand jury did not return the  verdict they desired.

The city is burning, and they were ready for war.

They were ready for “war,” because somehow the decision of their fellow citizens based on scientific evidence became a personal slight – an opportunity to project every miserable  event in their lives onto this one event and blame others for what they perceive to be their lousy lot in life.

I’m not good at expressing very many feelings, other than rage.

One of my assignments in grad school for my class in intelligence profiling was to develop a profile of myself. After careful self-analysis, I realized that my background as a Soviet Jew is the reason for my visceral reactions to injustice.

I wrote that injustice – whether it’s the force of the state against the individual, the force of the strong taking advantage and abusing the weak – whether the elderly, defenseless animals, or babies – or the force of those who gather in a mob to abuse those whom they perceive to be ready victims – makes me cry.

It ties my stomach up in knots.

The sheer intensity of the rage I feel takes my breath away.

The helplessness – the inability to do anything to help level the playing field – the utter despair I feel becomes physical pain.

It’s that pain that I felt when I stared down the barrel of a Soviet-made AK in Chop – that little border town in western Ukraine after the guards took my dad away for no reason other than to humiliate the Jews.

That’s the kind of pain and rage I feel when I see the looting Neanderthals victimizing innocent people in savage hordes.

Why?

It’s not because some kind of injustice happened in that grand jury hearing! It’s no because the jury was wrong, or racist, or somehow prejudiced against Michael Brown.

It’s because the jury did its job. They examined forensic reports, listened to testimony from eyewitnesses and others, read multiple written documents,  (the entire pack of documents is linked here) and in the end, they chose not to indict.

The justice system worked. Whether or not you like or agree with the results, based on the reams of evidence they examined, the grand jury did its due diligence and decided not to return the indictment.

That is called justice.

But that’s not why these looters are rioting. They don’t care about justice. They were planning riots long before the decision not to indict came down. They were planning to victimize innocent people – people who were maybe more successful, more well off, and better situated than they were.

And because these miserable, thieving Neanderthals need someone to blame for their lousy lot in life, they chose to project their grievances onto this one case, and to punish those who represent the wealth and success they would not work to achieve.

THAT’s what this is about. It’s a herd of barbarians taking the opportunity to exact vengeance for some nebulous slights against innocent people who had nothing to do with the grand jury decisions.

Merely because they could.

They had bricks, incendiary devices, numbers, and the willingness to victimize others.

Gun sales spiked in preparation for the decision in this case, according to CNN. Many chose not to rely on police to protect themselves and their property, but to take responsibility for their own lives and livelihoods.

That did not stop the looting hordes from setting local businesses and vehicles on fire.  What did the owners of Little Caesar’s Pizza and Auto Zone ever do to these animals?

Nothing. They looted and burned businesses, because they were there. Because this was the opportunity to take out all their rage on someone – anyone! It was the opportunity to, for once, in their miserable, decaying lives, to show their strength, rather than fester in their weakness!

I know I’m not good at expressing my emotions. I know I tend to focus more on factual information, links, evidence, etc.

But this…

This injustice – not the grand jury decision, which by all available evidence was reached after a thorough preponderance of the evidence presented – but the repugnant display of force against innocent people…

…this savagery makes me sick!

It should make anyone sick!

It should evoke tears, rage, horror, and shock.

This is the devolution of our society – the chaos and the agonizing shambles – that comes from this entitlement mentality: the mentality that allows sub-human swine to victimize innocent people en masse, because they somehow feel they somehow have the right to do so as a demonstration of their own impotent rage.

I’m so glad many in Ferguson chose to arm themselves! I’m grateful people began to realize how critical the ability to defend themselves is. I only fear that not enough of them chose to do so.

Follow The Leader

I’ve been following the increase in attacks on peaceful citizens in Israel. It seems the Arabs cant’ throw a rock without hitting a Jew in Israel. This is because that is their aim, along with throwing firebombs, and fireworks being thrown at citizens, and now the “peaceful” muslims are adding in knife attacks.

What could be behind this? Well, perhaps the leader Mahmoud Abbas? With Abbas, the reward from terrorism is good.

A Hamas member used a van to mow down pedestrians at two points along the capital’s light rail line midday Wednesday, killing one and wounding some 14 others, several critically. The fatality, Cap. Jidan Assad, 38, a Border Police officer from the Druze village of Beit Jaan, and the wounded were crossing the street when they were hit by the speeding vehicle, according to police. Assad is survived by a pregnant wife and a three-year-old son, according to Ynet News.

Abbas, in a condolence letter to the family of a Hamas terrorist who shot and severely wounded an Israeli-American last Wednesday, called the return fire by police which killed Muataz Hijazi a “sickening crime,” and “assassination which was perpetrated by the murderous, terrorist gangs of the despicable Israeli occupying army…”

Nor are attacks confined to groups of people with 3 month old babies. People traveling home from work on routes they usually take are finding things far more dangerous.

A brave group of Arab boys attacked a menacing group of Jewish School girls on a field trip by throwing rocks at them injuring one student and a teacher.

And now we have the latest horrific attack on Jews in Israel at Har Nof Synagogue. It is a escalation of what has been going on for some time. I’m so cynical I don’t even ask “why” anymore.

Well, ok, I ask why a lot. In fact, that is kind of how the genesis of this column started last week. I was talking to someone Friday, and I think if he heard “aval lama”, “but why” one more time I was going to have a pair of socks in my mouth. I was asking about the Temple Mount.

The Temple Mount is the first holiest site in Judaism, the third holiest in islam, and they persist in calling it the al-aqsa mosque. It has always baffled me that the Temple Mount is located in Israel, the Jewish state, is the holiest site in Judaism and Jews are not allowed to go there to pray. For that matter Christians aren’t real safe there either I don’t think. And part of what keeps the Jews from being allowed to pray on the Temple Mount are the Israeli police. Huh? These are their own people, they keep them from praying? The Israeli Police it seems, are trying to keep a bad situation from erupting into riots. Too late! Although the lack of anything other than muslims on the Temple Mount has not stopped muslims from carrying out attacks on civilians. And using the Temple Mount as they have hospitals and schools in Gaza as a terror base. In October the Police were forced to lock rioters in a building on the Temple Mount as Jews were allowed in for Sukkot.

How can this be? On June 7th, 1967 Jerusalem was reunited and The Temple Mount came under Israeli and Jewish control from the first time in about 2,000 years. The Shofar was sounded at the Western Wall by General Rabbi Shlomo Goren of the IDF to announce the liberation. It was considered a gift from G-d.

“We have returned to all that is holy in our land. We have returned never to be parted from it again.”
–Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, upon reaching the Western Wall

Unfortunately, “never” is a very short time in Dayan’s world at that point. Within days he had unilaterally ceded control of the Temple Mount back to the Jordanian Waqf, I find just thinking of them as “wack-o” works.

So while Prime Minister Levi Eshkol envisioned a committee made up of the various religions overseeing the Temple Mount, from the moment Dayan ceded control to the Jordanian wack-o faction, the dream of all faiths being allowed to worship and pray at the Temple Mount basically died.

A prominent Israeli Rabbi and activist Yehuda Glick works to allow increased access for Jews to the Temple Mount and has been doing so for a number of years. The absurdity of the situation is in full display by his arrest with his goat by Israeli police. This year it lead to an assassination attempt on his life.

I would count Yehuda Glick as a leader.

Far from the Temple Mount being a place where all faiths can now come to pray, it is becoming yet another terror stronghold for muslims. Not because they treat and value it as a Holy place, but because Jews and Christians do.

And this fight is not about religion, although that is certainly an element of it. Muslims are commanded in the quran to give “infidels”, that would be non-muslims, a chance to convert before they kill them.

If this were only about the Temple Mount, you wouldn’t hear statements from Hamas and Hezbollah denying the right of Israel to exist, and that they want to drive them into the sea. Nor would you be seeing attacks like the horrifying one in Har Nof. This is about killing people, a blind hatred.

I respect and admire Bibi Netanyahu, but I think he is off the mark when he says they will maintain the status quo on the Temple Mount. Although what that is, is hard to say. It’s certainly not what it was meant to be.

But when there are terrorist attacks in Israel, Bibi does respond, and he does take action. The houses of the terrorists are to be demolished. And he calls it what it is, a terrorist attack.

I do think there is absolutely and element of Spiritual warfare going on here. If attacks like the one in Har Nof can prevent people from going to Synagogue to learn, pray and worship? Then evil wins. But those people were no where near the Temple Mount when they were butchered. This was an attack on people because of who they were. Part of what makes them who they are is what they believe.

Another source of terror is “infiltrators”. In America they are called “undocumented democrats”. The difference in Israel is that the “infiltrators” are looking for jobs. In America, not so much. The areas where there are large groups of infiltrators the residents of the area live in fear. Israel has passed an infiltrator law but the point has been raised that the solution is even simpler than that. And they do need a solution, one Synagogue has been shut down, and Holocaust survivors are afraid to leave their apartment building. Again, preventing people from worship.

“I think the law is like treating cancer with Tylenol,” Komash, who is active in Tel Aviv, where infiltrators have largely taken over the central bus station, said.

“Putting the illegal infiltrators in detention for three years, building facilities, investing so much money for 10,000 infiltrators or 5,000 – that’s just not the solution,” he added. “What will they do with the remaining 40,000?”

“I think we simply need to send them back to their country,” he said. “The left simply defends them because most of them are Muslims, Christians and the left wants a state of all its citizens. But there’s no connection here. They’re not refugees, they’re infiltrators. They say themselves that they’re looking for a job here. It’s a simple solution: Sudanese to Sudan, Zionists to Zion.”~~Avi Komash

I do not believe for a second that Bibi is a stupid man, I think he knows and sees what is going on.

I think Bibi is a good leader.

What could be some of the issues that are constraining him from perhaps taking action against segments of the population that are terrorizing and killing his citizens?

Well, one answer I would think would be obama. Look at how obama responded to the attack at the Har Nof Synagogue. His statements seemed to imply that both sides were responsible, and called for both sides to rein in extremists. I am unaware of any Jews or Christians breaking into mosques and slaughtering innocent people. This does not serve Israel well, in my opinion.

A long time ago, I learned in a class about “shark bumps”. A shark will bump prospective victim (dinner) before it attacks, to see what will happen. If it fights back, it’s possible the shark will move on to easier prey. If not? It gets out the BBQ sauce. It is the same with criminal sharks. The guy that puts the hair up on the back of your neck when he asks you for the time? Or wants you to come closer to his car so he can ask for directions? Or stares you in the eyes and makes you uncomfortable? Do not respond meekly. It’s probably your intuition trying tell you “shark bump”. There have been SO many “shark bumps” in Israel. And the violence is getting worse because they haven’t been addressed with a harpoon.

As this Times of Israel article points out, the response coming out of the obama administration seems to differ depending on who the victims of the crime are. I am afraid because of the close relationship Israel and America have had in the past, pressure from the obama administration may affect Bibi’s responses.

Let’s look at how obama handles these types of situations in America.

Because obama is consistent. When the muslim nidal hasan murdered 13 soldiers at Ft. Hood, obama deemed it “workplace violence” rather than a terrorist attack.

Just as all religions are not treated equally on the Temple Mount in Israel, the same double standard seems to apply in America.

Jews are afraid of muslims on the Temple Mount, and they are not to pray there. In America if you are Jewish or Christian, you are not to pray in school. A recent change that one is. I can get you quite a few more of those. On the other hand, let’s see how schools are handling the religion of peace. Well, it seems there was an exercise, shall we call it, where a Nation of Islam document was used in a classroom that portrayed the founding fathers as racist. And, as I suspect we will see this more often now that many of the states have sold out to Common (rotten to the) Core. The children were told not to take the handout home, or talk to their parents about the exercise. Or the assignment where 10th graders made up islamic pamphlets to be designed for 3rd graders. No one seems to be able to find which week the schools will be teaching about empathy for Christianity or Judaism. Or this delightful exercise in a California school where based on the information the 8th graders were given, they came to the logical conclusion that the holocaust was fabricated for political gain, another common core exercise that one. You really should read that story, but make sure you have something to settle your stomach and outrage handy when done.

They reached that decision based upon the information the teacher gave them, and they were denied access to check other sources. If you look at how CNN, a faux news station covered the murders in the Synagogue, not only once, but twice, you begin see the specter of Julius Streicher arising. Those headlines go so well with obama calling on both sides to restrain extremists. Sounds sensible except again, one side isn’t slaughtering anyone. One side is just trying to survive things like rockets being fired out of a hospital or school in Gaza.

So in Israel and America, I think we see quite a difference in how the different religions are treated. How and what the people are allowed to do. What the state will and will not allow differs for the different groups quite a bit.

What do we see that is similar? Well, at the top of this story, the section from the story on how Mahmoud Abbas handled the killing of a terrorist by sending a letter of condolence to his family is quite similar to how obama chose to deal with a similar situation. There was a muslim in Oklahoma that beheaded a co-worker and was attempting to kill another one when he was shot and killed by the business owner who had a CCW. Rather than sending someone to investigate the mosque that spawned the killer, the DHS sent a Director with a “Thank You” note from obama to the mosque. It read in part

“Your service is a powerful example of the powerful roots of the Abrahamic faiths and how our communities can come together with shared peace with dignity and a sense of justice.”….

Yes, well.

Obama is not a leader worth following. Obama has an agenda that he is trying to ram down the throats of Americans, and for that matter, to an extent, Israel. Abbas is leading, his people are following and CNN, MSNBC and probably most of the lamestream media refuse to show it for what it is. My question last Friday was answered with “Poor leadership”. How, why could these things happen. “Poor leadership, not a strong leader”. Why would we in America think that things will turn out differently for us? Do you not think that we will begin to see attacks like the one at Har Nof? Most Church, and Synagogues are gun free zones. I hope and pray that will begin to change, and soon. Both in America and Israel.

But for that to happen, we will have to have real leadership. The kind of leader that loves this country and her freedom and wants to ensure it. As my esteemed colleague Y.B. Ben Avraham points out, we must strive to be leaders. I would add we must confront evil, to confront it, we must recognize it. We must do these things if we wish to live in a free society, to worship and live as we choose. And again, Y.B. is correct. The fate of the world hangs in the balance.

This video was shot at Berkley in CA. These are potential future leaders. This lunacy is part of what we strive to confront and stop.

The future leaders of the muslim world? They were eating candy to celebrate the massacre at Har Nor Synagogue.

Never had any doubt

“You’re paranoid.”

“The government isn’t after your guns.”

“Nobody wants to confiscate your guns.”

“Registration doesn’t lead to confiscation.”

How many times have we heard gun control advocates snottily ridicule us for knowing our own history? For understanding the nature of statism?

“This isn’t Nazi Germany,” they say. “No one is going to disarm you and victimize you.”

“Registration is a safety measure,” they claim. “It’s a crime prevention measure.”

Is it? From Buffalo, NY comes a report that details a plan by the police department in that city to begin confiscating firearms of legal gun owners after their deaths.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derrenda said at a press conference last week that the department will be sending people to collect guns that belong to pistol permit holders who had died so “they don’t end up in the wrong hands.” The department will cross reference pistol permit holders with death records and the guns will be collected when possible, he said.

Derrenda said guns pose a threat if their owner is no longer alive to safeguard them, especially if a recently-deceased gun owner’s home is burglarized.

[…]

The state law says that if the permit holder dies, the estate has 15 days to dispose of the guns or turn them in to authorities, who can hold the weapons up to two years. LoHud.com reported that violation of the law by survivors is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine.

So how will the police department find out whether the deceased had a gun? Carry permits? ATF 4473 forms, which licensed firearms dealers have to retain for at least 20 years?

While not “technically” registration, these records give the authorities the tools they need to confiscate firearms – to steal them from the families of the deceased when they are grieving and vulnerable – to violate basic property rights.

And Buffalo isn’t the only place where this odious infringement on basic human rights has happened.

In Connecticut, cowardly politicians rammed through a registration requirement for all firearms they deemed to look scary.  Gun owners resisted, and the majority of what these pusillanimous twits call “assault” weapons remained unregistered.  A few tried to register at the last minute, before the suspense, they wound up in limbo. The state now had their ownership information, and began confiscation proceedings against these gun owners, claiming they illegally held their property.

The state is sending letters to 106 rifle owners and 108 residents with high-capacity magazines saying they can destroy the guns and ammunition, sell them to a federally licensed gun dealer, move the items out of state or sell them to somebody out of state, or make arrangements to turn them over to local or state police.

Those who fail to do so could face serious criminal penalties.

In California, a de facto registration law signed by Jerry Brown in 2011 required the state to retain background-check records of those who purchase guns (although it did not register specific guns to specific people.) And you know what happened? Reason magazine explained in January.

The new law will bolster a program that has generated much controversy. Earlier this month, legislators held hearings on the effectiveness of the Armed Prohibited Persons System, used to confiscate the firearms of California residents who are no longer eligible to own them. The California Department of Justice relies on the current ownership lists to identify gun owners and cross check those with lists of people who have been convicted of crimes or have been involuntarily committed for mental issues.

The state auditor found, in a report released in October, that the department has not sufficiently notified courts and mental-health officials of their reporting requirements. Despite a new $24-million state appropriation, the auditor found that the program has failed to take guns from nearly 21,000 Californians who have forfeited their gun rights.

Not enough for you?

Registration led to confiscation in Australia, and Barack Obama wants to make that nation an example for the United States. (Yes, I know the link is RT – the Kremlin funded propaganda machine – but in this case, it’s actually correct reporting.)

After the 1996 Port Arthur massacre in Australia, its government passed the National Firearms Agreement, banning all semiautomatic rifles and semiautomatic and pump-action shotguns and imposing a more restrictive licensing system on other firearms. They also implemented a mandatory gun “buyback” – also known as confiscation (with perhaps a nominal payment for the owner’s property).

Those who do not remember history are, indeed, doomed to repeat it. That is the warning Canadian news anchor Brian Lilley  gave his American neighbors last year when he emphasized that registration did, in fact, lead to confiscation in Canada.

And in my birthplace – the USSR – firearm registration was introduced in 1918, which led to confiscation of weapons from everyone but… you guessed it… members of the Communist Party, with a stint in jail for anyone who possessed firearms and wasn’t a member. This was how Communists cemented their power over the hated bourgeoisie – those business owners, capitalists, and other undesirables whom they wanted to keep defenseless.

Those of us who grew up in tyrannical holes understand only too well that registering people for exercising their natural rights can only lead to the demise of those rights. Those of us who have studied history understand this as well.

Those who ignorantly seek to treat their fellow Americans like criminals merely for daring to exercise their rights either forgot their history, or are ignoring it.

Those of us who remember history never had any doubt about the end result of registration.

Rights are not up for grabs or votes

Now that Election 2014 has come and gone, and Bloomberg’s Everytown initiative suffered losses in nearly every arena, forcing him to waste $50 million  on an effort Americans obviously oppose, it’s time to ask some questions about our rights.

Among the sea of rejection for the gun control mission, however, there were tiny spots of stupid that gave small victories to the gun grabbers.

Washington state (as if you hadn’t heard Gunsense drones crowing about it) has passed Initiative Measure 594 – a gun control measure that would require every person wishing to purchase a firearm – even those doing so via private sales – to get government permission to do so.

This, in essence, has banned private sales. When you insert a government transaction, done through an FFL, into a private transaction, said sale ceases to be private.

Was the initiative about safety? Anyone who has been following the gun rights debate for any length of time knows that safety has nothing to do with it.  Criminals, for the most part, do not get guns through legal channels.

Guns purchase

Basic economics indicate that as long as there is a demand, there will be a supply, and when you close off legal supply channels, the black market flourishes.

So it’s not about safety. So why is it that Washingtonians were so eager to cede their basic rights to government infringement, even though this measure has no hope of stopping crime?

Why hand over your rights so easily?

Make no mistake, these are rights.

The right to keep and bear arms is a natural right that stems from the right to life and the right to defend your life. Why allow petty elected tyrants to control what tool you use to do it?

What about the right to property? Why would you allow the government to intrude on your right to dispose of your property as you see fit? If it rightfully belongs to you, why would you allow any government to control to whom you sell it?

And lastly, why would Washingtonians subject their natural rights to a vote in the first place?

Less than 50 percent of Washington residents voted in this election, and yet, they decided the fate of the natural rights of their fellow citizens – the right to dispose of their property, and the right to purchase it without government intrusion.

They decided this despite the fact that no loud, screeching, uninformed majority should ever be allowed to decide the fate of our natural rights with a push of a button.

That is not a decision any majority should be allowed to make.  And yet Washingtonians not only allowed the right to keep and bear arms and the right to property to be limited by their fellow state residents, but also allowed those rights to be put on the chopping block in the first place.

Rights exist. They are not and should not be up for discussion, debate, or a vote.

UPDATED: ‘Respek,’ Sheila Stokes-Begley

The column “A new Jewish pro-gun group: The Zelman Partisans,” by The Gun Writer, Lee Williams of the Herald-Tribune (Sarasota, FL), is a real coup for TZP. As Ali G., aka Sacha Baron Cohen, would have said: “Respek,” Sheila Stokes-Begley.

As someone who is hardly new to liberty (I began writing a weekly newspaper column in 1998, in Canada), but who takes her cues about Aaron’s legacy from individuals who were closely associated with him, forgive me for asking: If The Zelman Partisans is open to any and all—and I like the idea of inclusiveness in this cause—what makes us Jewish? I’m agnostic on the matter, if curious on just how we stay true to the advertized motto of “Jews. Guns. No compromise. No surrender.”

Again, kol hakavod, Sheila.

(Here is our Alexa ranking.)

UPDATE: Very well, Vladka Peltel (see comments below). My own writing and identity are inescapably informed by my Jewishness. I liked that JPFO had a rabbi on call who also reasoned powerfully—even brilliantly, and certainly biblically “against pacifism, and in defense of a ‘righteous killing.’ Rabbi Bendory also demonstrated a command of Hebrew grammar as well as impressive deductive, analytical thinking.” It would be hard to find another American rabbi in his league, and we should avoid recruiting a second-rate mind such as the two clowns mentioned in “American Rabbis For Israel First.”

In any case, you are all more Jewish than most Jews I know. This chat was most illuminating. Thanks.

A Video to Make You Tear Up

It’s Tuesday morning, and I ran across this video that I felt I needed to share with you. There’s not much left to say that Aaron Weiss didn’t say in this flawless 3-minute speech.

It’s eloquent and true. Those of us who volunteered to serve in the Armed Forces know why we did so – and it’s not for that generous $1800 per month you receive as a PFC.

I graduated Johns Hopkins with a degree in International Relations, and there was little doubt in my mind about what I wanted to do. I gave it some thought for a few months, but in the end I joined the Army.

I joined, because I understood what it’s like to live in a tyrannical state where rights matter about as little as human beings do.

I joined, because I wanted to defend the freedoms and opportunities this nation afforded me – freedoms the former USSR, Nazi Germany, and every other statist hellhole has destroyed.

I joined, because when I came to this country as a kid, I realized that I had opportunities here to live, achieve, and succeed that I would have never had as a Jew in the USSR.

And I was grateful. I was grateful enough to put on that uniform and swear an oath to defend our Constitution and those freedoms with my blood and my life.

Regardless of who resides in that White House at 20220, that oath and that promise remains the same. Politicians come and go. We may agree with them, nor not. But our oath and our promise remains: should any enemy threaten our country, our Constitution, or our people we will be there.

The young man in this video understands this. He served to protect those rights we hold dear. He continues to do so on a local level as a law enforcement officer. And he let those statist swine in New York know that he – as a veteran and law enforcement officer – will actively oppose their efforts to destroy everything he swore to protect…

…and do so by hypocritically using the deaths of children at Newtown to do it.

The future of the Second Amendment

I’ve written about Shyanne Roberts before. She’s a terrific kid and a champion shooter. I consider her the future of gun rights in America and what every child interested in shooting should look to as an example.

I’ve spoken to Shyanne on the phone. We spent nearly an hour talking about her sport, her future, and her dreams. She’s a sweetheart. She has a wide range of interests that includes things that every normal 10-year-old likes, such as music and cooking, and some that are considered unusual in the culture of fear and apprehension that seems to have permeated our once proud society.

In a world where shrieking shrews and power-hungry politicians try to disarm the populace and turn it into a herd of compliant sheep, Shy Roberts wants to be an inspiration.

“Kids and guns don’t always mean bad things happen.”

In a world where kids are taught to be afraid of tools of defense, and to rely on others for their own safety, Shyanne Roberts is a breath of fresh air.
