POLL: Which R-Party Candidate is Worst for Gun Rights?

This week’s poll is now UPDATE: Closed. The question: Which Republican presidential candidate is most dangerous to gun rights?

Before anybody gets mad, some explanation: We’re not prejudiced against R-party candidates. (Well, I am, but slightly less than I am against D-party candidates.) We’re just doing separate polls on each party. Ds and probably some mixed matches still to come. We may even do some political polls with a more positive spin.

Also, the eight names that appear in the new poll are those who qualified for this week’s Fox News “big boy” debate. Candidates who didn’t have enough support to make that debate were omitted.

So go. V*te. Then come back here and leave a comment to tell why you think that candidate is most perilous to gun rights.

(H/T to CB for the poll idea.)

Last week’s poll (on favorite EDC calibers) is still open through Monday at 6:00 p.m. CST. So please v*te in that, too, if you haven’t already.

Here’s where results stand as of early Sunday a.m. (click to embiggenate):

Free 9mm Ammo for taking a newbie to the range

TZP just received this from Brandon Black of Ammunition to Go:

I thought you’d appreciate a new initiative we just launched that will put 100,000 rounds of 9mm ammo into the hands of new shooters for free. We’re calling it “Ammo Ambassadors” and any shooter who takes a newbie to the range will get the free ammo.

We want to make it as easy as possible for people already familiar with shooting and guns to bring somebody who has never shot before to the range and safely teach them about firearms. With an election just around the corner, the more people we can inspire to get familiar with what gun owners actually do with their firearms, the better – especially in this political environment.

Here’s how it’ll work:

  • Find a new shooter who hasn’t been to the range and experienced the joy of shooting before.
  • Download a target off our site and take them to the range.
  • Snap a photo of the new shooter with their target and upload it to our site.
  • You’ll get a coupon code that’s good for two boxes of free 9mm ammo from Magtech – along with free shipping.

We have 100,000 rounds of Magtech 9mm ready to ship right now. We’re hoping to find 1,000 Ammo Ambassadors to take 1,000 new shooters out to the range in the next few weeks.

The details and the target are available here.

It’s on the honor system, guys. So go out and be honorable. Take that neighbor, girlfriend, significant other, son, daughter, or other person who’s never experienced the awesomeness of shooting a firearm and do your bit to keep the shooting community growing.

Funny this comes up just when we’re polling about favorite EDC calibers — and 9mm is coming out on top (24 of the 72 votes cast so far).

POLL: What’s your favorite EDC caliber?

This week’s poll is now up. The question: What’s your favorite caliber for everyday carry?

And yes, we’re assuming that your EDC arm is a pistol. If you prefer to lug around a Barrett .50 cal, feel free to choose “other.” 🙂

This poll will be open through Monday the 9th at 6:00 p.m. CST.

Last week’s poll results

We didn’t get many responses to our last poll, perhaps because a lot of our non-Jewish members didn’t feel qualified to answer or weren’t interested in the question. But here are the results (click to embiggenate):

Those who voted “other” left comments ranging from “Stockholm Syndrome & Liberalism as their religion” and “Self hate, as Aaron used to say” to “Dang if I know.”

Poll: Why are U.S. Jews generally anti-gun?

This week’s poll asks why American Jews are generally anti-gun.

We didn’t have a poll last week, but our previous poll (on whether you personally carry a gun) produced encouraging results (click to embiggen):

Between the big YES to carrying everywhere and the jaunty “none of your business” we’re clearly an alert and ready group. 🙂

Oh, and sorry about the two “other” options. Still getting used to how PollDaddy does things.

Weekend links

I’ve been saving these up, hoping to write something or somethings from them. But life has kept me from it. So here you go for your weekend reading …

  • “The Banality of Good.” A surprisingly decent piece from Slate on how people who rescued Jews during the Holocaust found it so hard to talk about what they did.
  • We tend to think of the Poles as being willing, eager collaborators with the Nazis in the extermination of Jews. As usual, the real picture was more varied.
  • Sometime-TZP-contributor Ilana Mercer says “cut the ‘cycle of violence’ crap and recognize what’s really going on with the latest round of attacks on Jews.
  • And the great Paul Rosenberg asks to look honestly on the anti-Jewish cancer in the liberty movement. (H/T ML)
  • Finally, on a more cheerful note, an Israeli hummus cafe gives substantial discounts to Jews and Arabs dining together.

(H/T to colleague Y.B. ben Avraham for several of these stories.)

This week’s poll: How often do you carry a firearm?

This week’s poll asks how often you carry a firearm.

Since it went up a little late this week, we’ll keep it open until Monday at 6:00 p.m. CDT.

(And yes, “none of your business” is one of the options.)

When people choose “Other” they have the option to fill in a blank with their reasons. Unfortunately, PollDaddy doesn’t display those, but we had some interesting ones. Most of the “other” votes were variations on “all of the above” or “several of the above.” But here were the more original ones:

“Change the mindset. We can ALL defend & should.”

“Arm everyone. Darwinian solution.”

“Require small arms training and arming all teachers.”

“Constitutional carry everywhere.”

Thanks to all who voted!

Rally in Roseburg, Oregon — this Friday morning

Crossposted from Living Freedom:

HEADS UP! Obama’s headed to Roseburg, Oregon, on Friday to continue politicizing the UCC murders for the sake of his anti-gun agenda. Locals and other activists are responding with a rally telling the Hoplophobe in Chief that he and his anti-rights agenda aren’t welcome in rural Oregon.

If you’re in the area and can attend, please send reports and photos. I’ll gladly post them here.

(Tip o’ hat to LS for the word)

Poll: Most effective way to stop mass public shootings

This week’s TZP poll asks “What’s the most effective way to stop mass public shootings?”

I should add that in coming up with that question I have no expectation (unlike our starry-eyed anti-gunner “friends”) that we can prevent all violent, crazy jerks from being violent, crazy jerks. Feel free to interpret “stop” to mean either “discourage creeps from even trying it” or “end it — NOW.”

You can only choose one option in this poll, but I know your thoughts are likely to be much more nuanced. So as always feel free to comment away!
