Illinois Assault Weapon Ban

Illinois now has an “assault weapon” ban, complete with registration for “grandfathered” firearms.

Wiser sheriffs says they will not enforce the blatantly unconstitutional law. I would guess they are the ones aware of the SCOTUS decision in BRUEN. Or possibly they recall an observation I made in the 1990s, when California was prepping its own outright ban.

“The sheer immorality of victim disarmament aside, one would hope every law enforcement officer out there would stop to consider all the possible ramifications of kicking in several million doors because the occupants are well armed.”

— Moi

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker doesn’t seem to be cognizant of either the decision or the quote.

“As are all law enforcement all across our state and they will in fact do their job or they won’t be in their job,” Pritzker said.

Well, he’s a Dim; it’s not like he really wants cops anyway.

But since I mentioned California’s ’90s ban and registration, they saw a remarkable 2.33% compliance rate with registration (by their own estimates). The NY SAFE Act did a little betterworse 4.45%. Connecticut rather optimistically claimed to have achieved 13.44% complaince rate. But CT’s numbers are somewhat questionable, seeing as how one single individual “registered” 544,000 high capacity magazines.

Perhaps Illinois will see a similar outburst of malicious compliance and the overly compliant stuffing their database with BS. Could some enterprising freedom-lover register a few dozen evil black rifles at 410 E Jackson Street, Springfield, IL 62701?

Databases: Garbage in, garbage out.

Malicious Compliance Revisited

With registration schemes in the works, let’s imagine a humorous, purely hypothetical scenario.

Police State A passes a registration law.

Folks in other states publicly post something along the lines of, “I happen to know that someone in [NOT-State-A] has an AR, [manufacturer] [model] serial number 12345xxx. Plenty of credible examples.

“Compliant” A-Staters use that data to cram the State A’s database full of realistic-looking garbage: variations on out-of-state weapons. Change the serial numbers.

And never forget the overly compliant. Register a few hundred per person. You’ll probably make typos on the forms, so be sure to requisition plenty. And early, as they’ll likely run out.

Now that places such as New York City and California are doing their best to generate new Dim-ocrat voters-to-be with sanctuary and ID for “undocumented” illegals, those identities could be the ones “registering” their imaginary “assault weapons” and half-million-apiece magazines. I’ve heard that in Chicago, 1060 West Addison Street is a traditional address.

With millions of bogus database entries, I expect it’ll be a while before they sort through them and find “real” people who… “Darned boating accidents.” Mischievous types will want to get their lost/stolen reports in ahead of the expected rush. If they go low-bidder on the software, our little Simon Jesters might even crash the database.

If nothing else, this should lower unemployment, as governments recruit more clerks to handle the data entry.

“Compliance”: Bump-Stock-TYPE Devices

The bump stock ban rule is out. Bump-fire stocks are now machineguns. To power-crazed tyrants, anyway. But, since FOPA forbids possession of machineguns manufactured or imported later than May 1986, you’ll have to get rid of them.

You want to be good, right?

I suppose you could simply destroy your bump-fire stock, but if the ATF gets hold of some retailers’ customer list and comes knocking, you’ll want some proof that you already complied. You could hang on to the properly cut up pieces (you do have an oxy-acetylene torch?) and show them that.

Or you could turn in your new contraband like a good little citizen. Mail your bump-fire stock to the ATF.

Oh. Wait. That’s “bump-stock-TYPE device.” “Type” is fairly all-inclusive. To be safe, you should send in any bump-fire assist gadgets you have on hand.

Rubber bands come to mind. So do Jeans (belt loops).

For that matter, none of this is needed to bump-fire a rifle; you can do it with bare hands. But you don’t want to ship those off, so represent them with gloves.

Heck, send them a finger.

Again, any semi-auto rifle can be bump-fired, so any stock is a “bump stock,” right? If you happened to replace the original wood stock for your SKS and have the old one laying around…

..send ’em that.

Heck, you might even toss some shoestrings in with your bump-fire toys, just in case they change their minds again.

They do that, after all.

Don’t forget to ask for a receipt. You should even consider sending it certified mail.

On the other hand, you might want to keep your stocks. I supppose you could tie 2 bump-stocks together. “No, Mr. ATF. That there is my constitutionally-protected nunchuks.”
